How Do YOU Get A Great Acoustic Guitar Sound?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. There are numerous points here that I will try.

More than anything, its about having a good-sounding guitar! I just put some Elixers on mine, been using Cleartones for a couple of years - find strings that give you the sound you like. Finding the right mic position for YOUR guitar is crucial. I have used both an SM57 and an AKG Perception 220 on mine with similar results. When I put both mics side by side, I could not hear much of a difference in the 2 tracks.

I'm using a Taylor GS7 also with elixirs run thru an AKG C414XLII and a UA710 pre. I'll mess around with mic position a little more. The problem is I don't really know what I want until it's in the entire mix. I usually record my guitars first to a click, then drums, then bass, then vocals. In my songs the acoustic is usually solo for a portion or all of the first verse then everything kicks in together.
