i record punk but i cant get the mix i want just like the commercial punkrock. How do you fill the rythm distortion into the mix?

im recording guitar direct into my amplitube software amp

1 track - add delay to make it wide stereo?

or

2 tracks - panned hard left and right , separate tracks?

or something

i dont know,,, help!

and my distortion is not punchy, how do i do that?

I wouldn't pan hard L&R, maybe 25% or something. Maybe boost the low and mid of your rhythm guitar. But the bass should fill in the low end.

some people just copy their guitar track and pan each hard r/l w/o additional efx.... also recording directly in never sounds that great... i tried amplitube and got rid of it, nothing beats the amp-speaker-mic-pre-in signal chain.

Definitely two tracks. Maybe you're loosing too much distortion? Don't try to improve the sound of the tracks by listening on their own; only in the mix. You might try to compress the tracks (I like that better than uncompressed guitar tracks on punk rock songs -- I know a lot don't... I even used multiband comp on guitar tracks - can help to control the palm mutes, but I assume you won't have these probs with amplitude...)
