How do I take my songs off my cd and put them back on my hard drive for transformation to mp3? I put them on the hard drive but none of my programs will open them so I can manipulate them?

What Windows does when you drag and drop is actually just to create a shortcut to the .cda files on the cd.

The easiest way to put the files on your harddrive is to import the songs straight into whatever multitracking software you're using (Cakewalk, Cubase, Nsoft...)
There's a function in the software called 'import files from cd' or something similar which does the trick.

Ive always used Goldwave at www.goldwave.com

Open it up, hit Tools/CD Audio Extraction and select the track(s) you want to rip and then choose where you want it to be saved...viola....

The easiest way is to download MusicMatch at http://www.musicmatch.com/
Eiter just download the free version, or pay for the advanced one, which is well worth it (free one works just as well for making MP3's).
They have a very good interface, easy to use, and their conversion process is, as far as I've been able to hear, the best of the "free" ones out there.
Just put your CD in your drive, open musicmatch, press record, and follow the instructions on the help file.

Yeah, but what do you know about good sound;)

Music Match came with my computer and Ive never tried it...Ill have to check it out.....

LOL When I started making some MP3 files for the first time a couple of months ago I tried them all.

I have a a couple of really good conversion program on my main system, but that is on a Mac OS and not on connected to the net, so I wanted to do it on the PC. Went about it in my usual anal way, downloaded about 6 programs, converted 2 songs on all 6, then cut all of them to a disk, and went into the control room to listen to the results.
Musicmatch was the clear winner.
Some programs out there are HORRIBLE!!!! eeewwwwwwwwww!
If I remember right, the one you are using is not bad either, but still not as good.
We've just ordered Bias Peak 2.5 which apparently has a very good MP3 conversion. I'm looking forward to seeing how that stacks up against musicmatch.
If you try musicmatch, tell me what you think.

MP3 conversion codecs vary greatly in quality.I think lame sounds the best, followed by fraunhoffer with blade a distant third.

I paid for the Cool Edit mp3 prog, thinking it would sound better and work better with my editor. My guess is nobody knows how it sounds compared to the others, but I'll ask anyway.

Asking...starting...NOW!

Sjoko says Music Match sounds better and I figure if anyone is a good judge of sound, Danny Bonaduce is....;)

LOL - well, I wonder if Danny's listened to the Cool Edit mp3 prog?

I just asked danny, he said no he said, no it was, I think, yup, he said no. Oh Gidge? re the NGS thing. - phone 805 895 8852 for a message.

sounded like a phone sex operator...was gonna leave a message but that voice saying "where nobody gets screwed" cracked me up and I couldnt keep a straight face....
