I know, I dislike the How do I . . . threads as much as you.

I was in a lecture the other day, and one of my friends mentioned how he liked the effect that the monitor button has. Ya' know, when your singing with the monitor button on and you get that effect caused by the latency.
And he said he liked. I instantly thourght. "Yeah I've noticed that! How do I recreate that"

Thats my question, how can I recreate the latency that occurs whilest monitoring through the DAW, I know there will be a few veriations, but some maths and maybe different ways to achive this?

Sorry but it will be really useful to have some new methods I can experiment with.

I think you just use a loud delay with a long delay time and low regen (AKA feedback). Do you just want it on one track? The whole mix?

It would just be one the lead vocal tracks. I suppose my aim has always been to give my vocals a nice sweet sound without sounding too processed, and I have noticed that the effect I get from monitoring pleases my ears wo why not start there?

There is a common technique used on vocals called the "stereoizer" that actually uses two short delays of different length, one on the left channel and the other on the right. To avoid comb filtering, people seem to like to use prime numbers at least 10ms apart for the delay times, such as 11 ms and 23 ms. I bet you can find some video tutorials on it if you google "stereoizer tutorial."

I actually used this sort of thing last night to make my rusty old voice sound much better...

I'd been using a slight echo via an AUX bus on my recorder and wondered what other options I had so scrolled through the menu at alll the effects I never use and found a stereo delay... can't remember the details, but works exactly as tonesponge has detailed above..

Worth a try...:drunk:

Another word for latency is delay. If you know what your latency is, that is your delay time. Just bring up a simple delay plugin and set it for that time.

brilliant!!!!

:spank: Such a simple, obvious answer but one that just ran under my nose.

You might try a different micing technique also.

Use one mic close up and another about 3-4 feet away.

That sounds like it could be a good experiment.

Im slowly dieing cause I cant record anything at the mo, cause im still waiting for my mbox pro. N' any recording I do on my old UX2 will be fairly useless to me in a couple of weeks.
