.....promote my album without using myspace or facebook because I fucking hate them?

Do you want to sell album?

I would submit album to itunes.

Its pretty tough to promote music online...you almost have to play live shows and build an audience and following however there are exceptions and some may be able to get a decent online following.

I would submit to itunes Greg...get your tunes out there...doing it any other way may just be a waste of time I think.

And what will itunes do for me? How would someone find my album on itunes? There's like 40 trillion bands on itunes. How would some itunes using shmoe find me?

Hahaha we're in the same boat man :D

You have to pay a bit of money, but I got some of my songs up on Jango.com. Internet radio, and if you get enough fans, it goes onto general rotation, meaning no more pay requirements!

There's also Pandora, but you need to be on Amazon to get there.

Learn to love them.

If you get on facebook I'll even invite you to be a friend! You won't be all by yourself then.

The only thing I use Facebook for is to see the pics of my kids that my wife posts. :laughings: ( okay, I keep in touch with family and just a few friends also)

Seriously, promoting your music has got to be the most difficult part. Besides gigging and touring, there's not much else you can do. College radio, internet radio to highly targeted audiences, find touring artists who will play your tunes, pitch to tv/film/publishers, local cd stores.

There's nothing on the internet that will get people to buy your music. You have to make them. They have to see you to hear you. I believe you do gigs once in a while, maybe you can sell a few cd's between sets.

Why dont you try it and see.

Lots of people use itunes and search for certain types of music...how can it hurt to have your tunes there...I cant see the negative.

Like you say there ar trillions of bands however there are just as many people looking for different types of music as well.

Most people use itunes so you might as well go where most of the people are and throw your music in the bucket as well.

Other than that i really dont see many other options except for playing live and growing an audience however even then your going to want to have the music be availble for download.

Just try itunes...if it doesnt work then it doesnt work...you dont know untill you try...not everyone is looking for the latest pop star songs...some people actually search for different types of music.

Stop asking how and just do it...what do you have to lose...nothing

I heard there was a guy here selling home made CDs out of his trunk. He sat in Wal-Mart’s parking lot with a speaker on the roof. I heard he sold 10 the day my nephew happened to hear him. That’s 10 more than I ever sold.

I rest my case. People like this are why facebook and myspace suck.

It's better to be all by yourself than be a 50 year old social networking loser that equates your online "firends list" with real life.

Tunecore looks like a pretty good way to get my shit out there. I need a way to advertise that doesn't involve social networking sites.

Ive read about tunecore several times over the years...they are a decent way to distribute songs however all they are going to do is submit songs like I mentioned earlier...why not submit directly yourself.

Also Ive heard that tunecore takes a long to to pay up so to speak and they dont really give good real time reports on sales.

My theory is they take a long time to pay up so the money has a chance to collect some interest in the bank so they hold monies as long as possible...thats just a guess though and i dont really know that for sure.

Another way of going is submit directly to itunes yourself

Money you would of spent on tunecore I would create a website for promoting and then use google addwords for advertising.

Google adwords works well...I used to use it when I sold comic books online...puts you on the first page most times in google search depending on keywords you choose to use...Thats the best exposer you can get really...page 1 of google search.

This seems like an awful lot of hassle for something that maybe 3 people will buy.

Any idiot can get their music on iTunes or CDbaby.....that's not the question that was asked.

How do you promote the music so people will buy it on iTunes or CDbaby?

That's a tougher nut to crack.

We know what the question is and we did post ways of promoting songs.

The irony in your post is that you didnt offer any insight to the "question" your telling us about.

You could set up a Bombplates site. Then we'll push updates to your Myspace and Facebook, so you can ignore them but still get the benefits of marketing with them.

Do you know the meaning of irony?

Find a local college professor who teaches marketing. Ask him to use your music promotion as a class project that will study methods and results of internet promotion. You give them pics, music files, bio material. The marketing class divides into groups, competing with each other by creating promo pages on the various sites - Myspace, Facebook... and measures their success by both the number of listens on the page, and the recordings you sell that were referred by that page. Of course, you'll have to make the sales method able to determine where the sales referral came from. Dunno if iTunes can, though they'd be the preferred sales method otherwise because they're universally trustable by the consumer. Online sale would be important in addition to physical CD sales, as customers can buy singles. You'd sell many more singles than full CDs.
