Besides the fact that you might make 6 bucks on a good day?

You're an idiot if you think playing music will get you anywhere.

Dumbest shit I've heard, playing live is everything, thats were one can make some cash too.

your band sucks to much for you to experience it:laughings:

We'll make more at our next gig than you will in a year. That's okay though, you carry on "living the dream" with your faggy jumpsuits, transsexual guitarist, and your flute. :laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

serious?

Ok, so for those who are interested in music marketing in todays ever-growing internet world - I'm going to let you in on a few things.

1. Spend money to make money - you get out what you put in, if you're looking for free means of promotion, choose another niche/business whatever.

2. Everything is free for the listener at first - you can't expect people to pay for your music in mass quantity until you've gained their respect as an artist.

3. To gain respect, relate to them - if you're writing the same old bollocks as every other musician it gives listeners nothing new to think about. It's as tiresome as hearing lil wayne 'rap' about money, drink and drugs or ludacris jumping on another terrible track about 'love' with that beiber kid.

4. The music industry is just like any other industry - give the consumer something for nothing to catch their interest, once you have their interest, feed it over and over. Keep them wanting.

To plan your marketing is easy, to actually do it is often not. Find inspiration and motivation and do what you got to do.

Just for the record - myspace is no longer deemed useful in music promotion. Facebook on the other hand, is an extremely powerful tool for marketing when used properly. We started up and tested a 'fanpage' with Facebook, ran specific promotion campaigns, and saw the fanbase shoot from 3 to 481 in 6days. Then we stopped all promotion and left the page hanging by itself, and in the next 7days we only saw an increase of 6 fans. A lot of decent online promotion is expensive, but it's the fastest means to get heard by many.

Hope this helps some of you... ;)

I wouldn't pay any money to get 481 likes on Facebook.

Seriously, promoting your music has got to be the most difficult part. Besides gigging and touring, there's not much else you can do. College radio, internet radio to highly targeted audiences, find touring artists who will play your tunes, pitch to tv/film/publishers, local cd stores.

Gigging and touring is a joke too. It's all pointless. All that matters is luck and sucking ass.

The first step of marketing your music online will be creating a website to sell your music online. Your website will both show off your talent to the visitors and convert them into fans who buy your music.
Good online marketing campaigns are usually backed with powerful email management system called auto-responders which are very useful for storing your contacts and scheduling emails to go out to your new subscribers telling them your music.

.....promote my album without using myspace or facebook because I fucking hate them?

Hey Greg. Have you tried guerrilla marketing? I'm sure there are music stores/bars in your area. Print up some fliers, and ask the bars/stores if they'll put them up for you. Go to a music store with a few CDs with 3 or 4 of your songs on them, and just ask if the manager will allow you to just give them away.

Bob Baker usually has some pretty decent ideas. Music Marketing Promotion Tips, Book Promotion & Sales, Self Publishing, Online Branding, Bob Baker

Have you considered setting up your own website (not MySpace or FaceBook)? Then, you could just use whatever marketing materials that you have, and put your URL on there. Along with samples and where to buy.

Are there any upcoming festivals/parades/events in your area? What about showing up there and doing something similar? Go with maybe 100 or 200 CDs with 3 or 4 songs, and just hand them out.

You could always have a "street team". People that you get to do your promotion work for you.

Maybe you could make up a few t-shirts. I dunno, I'm just throwing ideas out there. But if you wanna go the website idea, hit me up. I might be able to help...

OK sir, if you don't want to promote your music by MySpace and facebook. Then the best idea to communicate with the people that are following you and to a certain extent, the more posts you make the more people are check out your profile. It helps you to promote your music.
