how do I turn off the auto devolumatorijig

When I'm recording drums or other things, Cubase will automatically turn down the volume on a bar of recording even when it's not clipping... here's an image for reference...

the blue square should be at the top (this is the same kind of thing as the fade in crap but over the extent of the whole recorded wav)

sorry if this is incoherent, but i've looked through the menus and I don't know how to disable this feature, because it's not clipping, and I want a loud signal for the sake of goodness
 
Not sure, never seen that before. I do remember some kind of automatic volume setting thing I never understood, so I never bothered to get into it. Check the input/output settings and the preference menu, you should be able to find a solution.
 
Turn off the read button on your master channel.
