I have just purchased an MPA Gold valve PreAmp and a Pro VLA valve compressor.Does anyone know how to set these two up correctly.
Thanks.

Mic to input of preamp. Output of preamp into the input of the compressor. Output of compressor to interface or other outboard gear you may have.

Hi Mentalattica.
Yep, that's not a problem to connect them together via a mixer etc.
If someone was using the same preamp and compressor I was wondering how they set all parameters via input and output, Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release and all that gen.

If you don't know how to dial then you shouldn't use it.Not to be mean or anything but a badly set comp can do more harm than good.
why not just feed signals through it like a vocal and experiment?
I personally prefer 10:1 for vox with a tight start and a flabby but not too slow release/end.

Thank you Big Kenny, that's exactly what I wanted, ball park settings to give me an idea.
Your a scholar and a gentleman.

check out southsideglen's compression tutorial.

that's got madd info dog. :)

10:1 for tracking??

i would have to say no.

Those are nice boxes. Very simple to use. Just follow your ears. 4:1 ratio and a threshold of around -10 or -15 is nice for vocals with that comp. It depends on your mic placement as well. I usually leave the attack and release on auto. One word, Experiment!

Enjoy! :)
