Hello,

I use a Fostex VF-16 to record, and sometimes some 4-tracks, and 2 channel tape machines. I want to use Reaper on my computer. So i want to be able to transfer files onto my computer to be able to mix, etc. My Fostex has a digital (light pipe) in and out, plus rca jacks. What kind of device do i need to hook up to my computer to be able to do this? and how?

you need either 1/ an external audio interface (with lightpipe inputs) or 2/ a PCI or PCIe style card that slots into your PC which is also the soundcard with lightpipe inputs, is there any way you could use an audio input instead from the fostex? that might be another option as long as there is a way to make sure they play back in sync, you could always move them around and lock them to a tempo in reason.

Since you want to use other machines besides the Fostex, just get a USB audio interface with line inputs and run the audio output from any of the machines to it.

+1 on what MJB said dual input interface with line inputs.
Just my two pence.
