How do I play cda files?

I've copied some background music from a cassette tape to a CD.

I want to play the background music and record my voice using n-track.

How do I do this?

You'll have to probably rip them to WAV files. Or, rip them to MP3, then convert to WAV files. MS Media Player should be able to do this for you.

Okay, I ripped the files from the CD but now they are in a WMA format. How do get this to a WAV format?

I can rip it to a MP3 format but how would I convert this to a WAV format?

He's right.

Those cda files are not actually files of the music. They are just instructions to tell the cd player where on the disc the track starts and stops. You'll need to rip them to WAV or MP3 to do anything with them.

Can't you just rip it straight to WAV? What program are you using?

OK. I downloaded a free software that converts WMA files to WAV files. Now n-track will recognize it.

I was using Windows Media Player to rip my karoake background music but it was going to a WMA file.

Is there a better way than this?

Yes,
Rip directly to wav, going to WMA to wav will lose some quality
