How do I monitor effects in EMU Patchmix?

In other words, the classic monitor "wet", record "dry" scenario.

Patchmix is pretty daunting and I can get it to do most of what I want but I know theres a way to hear reverb on the mic mix going to the vocalist that will not end up being sent to Cubase for recording.

I know it has to do something with sends and busses but I feel pretty lost....

Anyone?

THANKS!

I know this post is over a year old, but for anybody new to Patchmix who might otherwise have seen the thread title, maybe this will help.

First off, by way of a disclaimer, people say Patchmix is daunting or difficult to us but I have to believe these are merely claims from those who get frustrated and give up after their initial introduction to it. In actuality, once you use it a few times and especially experiment with it to understand how it works, it is laughingly simple to use. I know this because I've only had mine for a few weeks.

In any event, the answer to the original post is: After opening your effects palette you simply select your effect(s) of choice by dragging and dropping it or them to the "Main Inserts" section/panel below the so-called TV screen. The effect(s) will then be routed to the headphone jack on your hardware mixer (all models), and also your MicroDock's headphone jack (1616 and 1818 only) for you to monitor with your selected effect(s).

If you didn't put any effects into a or any of your send strip(s), that is, the signal that is specifically sent or routed to and recorded in your DAW of choice, e.g., Cubase, or Sonar, et al., that effect-less signal will of course be recorded dry, thereby achieving the classic monitor "wet", record "dry" scenario.

Note in the below graphic, 4-Band EQ was selected for the monitor output(s).

Yeah hey thanks actually I figured this out awhile ago also....and with prolonged use I feel super comfortable with patchmix now...for $99 I think the EMU 0404 was a great purchase considering all the dsp effects and capabilities.

You're welcome and you definitely did good getting the 0404 and for that price. Glad your an 'old pro' at it now. Like I said, I just started so I might now be coming to you for answers. haha. But really, as you've found, once you grasp the basics everything else pretty much falls into place. I presume you must have the older non-USB 0404 because that newer version no longer has the full Patchmix application but something very rudimentary with nowhere near the flexibility of Patchmix.

hold this post!:)... I think you fixed my "roadblock' too.

edit 7-

ok got it!

drag and drop the effects to the channel, and the "send" location in the channel strip determines if the effects are recorded "wet"or "dry". (page 5 in my manual).

too cool, rack mount gear maybe not needed for my simple HR stuff.....

I wanted to record "wet" (with comp, eq, noise gate) and by moving the "send" to the bottom of the list, with effects first, the effects now go to the DAW.

If the "send" is on the top of the list- before the effect inserts, the dry signal goes to the DAW and the "wet" is in the headphones only.

thanks for leading me to the answer!!
