how do I limit the signal and then compress

why dont you guys go look in an article and find proof that chopping peaks off a signal raises the noise floor?

thats like saying chopping off your head would make your feet higher!

some graphs would be nice as long as theyre not doctored!

all the graphs ive seen show that the opposite would have to be true!
 
Blue Bear, does the ignore filter improve the Signal to Noise ratio on these forums? I might have to look into that :cool:

It doesn't help the forum, but it does let you ignore bullshit nonsense from morons....

I avoid using it unless the shit really starts to smell... which it did as soon as jeap came on board..........

let me see if i can explain this in terms even you can understand.

you are chopping your head off and then you get up on a box and you say "look my feet are higher now".

i say that when you chopped off your head your feet didnt go up. your feet went up when you got up on the box.

see the chopping off of the head is the limiting. the box is the makeup gain.

youre saying that the makeup gain is a part of the limiting and i say its a seperate process.

does it really matter? no... but you are wrong anyway!

But IMO there is one thing wrong with this: you're swapping the causal order: you chop the head off in order to fit onto the box... But this is a rather 'philospohical' question... I'm glad you pointed out that it was the makeup gain that you don't consider as part of the limiting process and I do... I absolutely could not understand why so many people would not understand what I meant - now it's obvious: simply a misunderstanding due to the different understanding of the word 'limiting'...

you could limit without the makeup gain and it would still be limiting!

in the graphs you see when you go read the articles on limiting and compression they usually dont show noise floor or makeup gain.

why is this? to me its obvious! limiting itself does not affect the noise floor and makeup gain is an optional process.

but the real proof is that you could limit without the makeup gain and it would still be limiting.

simple!


with a lot of the ppls the disrespect is very subtle. they are "dismissive" of opinions and persons. they are puffed up with self pride. they are conceited arrogant pharisees. they show their disdain with sarcasm and belittlement. they deserve the most crass and obvious insults. dont they?

and then other ppls are very mean. they are always looking for things to jump on and say "thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard in my whole life!".

if you talk about your new microphone they say it "sounds like ass" even though theyve never heard it.

if you talk about your mic preamp they say "those things suck" even though to you and many others it may be perfectly good.

they cant wait to call other people stupid and foolish for any little reason.


isnt it fun to insult them in the worst way possible? they deserve it dont they?

The cool thing about ignore filters is that while you can see the morons knocking at your door, they simply don't have a key to get in!!!
