Ok this may be a stupid question. I am gonna buy a focusrite saffire pro24 dsp. It will suit me just fine for what I am doing. But I got to thinking that if anyone would ever want me to record a drum kit, and not use my Alesis DM10, that I would need xlr channels. I was wondering if and how I can hook up a mixer to it, and any suggestions on what kind to get? Keep it kinda cheap, I'm on a budget. I am kinda lost.

It would be preferable to use an interface with eight or more simultaneous channels if you're going to mix drums. If you connect a mixer to two channels of your interface, you'll have to mix the drums down live and won't be able to remix them or fix the drum mix later.

Ok, you may sway me into getting the saffire pro 40 then. I was interested in the 24 because it has dsp effects built in with the vrm software, i thought that would be handy. I will have to do some more research on it.

Don't waste money on effects built into the interface. Your DAW software will support all the VST plugin effects you'll ever need.

Ok, I am gonna have to say that I will probably go with the pro 40 then.
