how do i hook a mic up to my computer

I would like to do voice over work from my home using my computer and cool edit pro...what is the most inexpensive way to hook a mic up to my computer? do I absolutely have to have a board or mixer to do this?

If you have a soundcard...then you can plug a mic in...Don't expect too much quality though...

the most inexpensive way is to plug the mic into the mic in of the soundcard(if its a dynamic mic).....the most inexpensive way to do it and get results in the range you are looking for is to run the mic into a preamp and then into the line in of the soundcard.....
