Rational Punk said:In my experience, getting hits hasn't been all that hard. Neither has getting lots of downloads and a boatload of compliments on message boards and via email from site visitors. What's hard is getting folks to take that last step and actually ORDER a CD. I wish some PR genius could explain to me what one has to do on a website to shift the visitor's mindset from "that's really cool" to "that's something I have to have a copy of."
Agreed, hits are near meaningless if no one follows through with an order. Unfortunately, too many folks now in the mindset that their music should be free, copyright infringements be damned. I also tire of complaints made about radio and store selections, while indie artists are all but ignored. There's a ton on indie and small label talent out there. You only have to look and listen from indie retail sites such as CD Baby and CD Street.
