i am working in cubase sx, and acid 4.0. my midi is coming from a general midi keyboard from radio shack. how do i get extra midi sounds, are there midi libraries, midi packs? i would like to change a piano into a nice french horn or trombone. to my knowlege i am limited to just general midi sounds, grand piano, brite piano, etc...etc....

There are a wide variety of VST instruments out there that will serve exactly this purpose. Alternately, you can buy hardware modules, or even other software-based sound modules. One that came for free in VST5.0 was the Universal Sound Module. Does that come with SX?

yo chris

no it didn't, i'll be experimenting deeper into this. thanks

I doubt there is any way to change the sounds that come on your Radio Shack keyboard... but that said, General MIDI includes trombone and french horn patches. If the Radio Shack keyboard is truly a General MIDI-compliant device, it will have these sounds.

yeah, but they suck for what i'm trying to do. i guess i'll have to look for a brass vst to tweak it right?

thanks clemie

thanks for the info. i got rid of my creative card for a lynx one card, so i guess that cancels me out on soundfonts. i have a korg triton coming in by this weekend so i should be ok then.

If you don't have a SoundBlaster there are VST samplers that will read Sound Fonts...

alchuck

will this be true with sample tank in cubase sx?

You can look it up at the CUbase or SampleTank websites as well as I could...

cool

been there, done that. i only know little about soundfonts. i thought that you may have experience in cubase + sampletank, and could give me some insight that would save me a lot of time. thanks for your help

Sorry, I don't, I'm a SONAR man myself...

But surely the makers of SampleTank say what formats it reads on their website????

taken fromhttp://www.sampletank.com/Main.html?STSupport

Q) Q) Can I import sounds in SampleTank®?
A) SampleTank® aims to be an open system. For the time being, you can only import AKAI® sound banks (S1000/S3000 format supported), converting them into SampleTank® instruments using the ST Converter application (included with L and XL versions of SampleTank®). We plan to include the option of converting standard audio files in a future release. Third party conversion utilities are currently being developed, that will support SampleTank® format.

thanks alchuck for suggesting i dig a little deeper into the site. the navigation was kind of hard to follow. now i'm off to do some research on akai files and if i can sample something and convert it to that so that i can use it in sample tank.

i feel stupid

i copied and pasted the info before thoroughly reading it. it answered all of my questions. looks like i'll have to find another virtual sampler.
:D
