Hi. I´m new to the forum, so hello, everyone.

I´m also a newbie regarding home-recording. Therefore, I believe my questions would be really basic, and sometimes ridiculous. I apologize for that.

My first question is:

I´m using Sonar 7 Producer Edition, and the extent of my knoledge is this:

Each track has its pluggin (delay, Eq, etc.). I equalize the instruments so they don´t mask each other.

But equalization settings for each instruments will vary during the entire song. For instance: the vocals sound natural, then enters a telephone effect, then, in the chorus, the vocals receive a different reverb setting, etc.

How is that done ?

What is the most common approach regarding changes on the settings of a pluggin during the song ?

Is it possible to automate an equalizer, a compressor, a reverb, etc ?

Or will I have to create a new track with the raw recording, with new pluggins, for each part of the song I want an instrument to sound different ?

I know it is possible to apply an effect just on a selected part of the track, but this is a problem for me, for two reasons:

1- I´ll be applying an effect over the effect i already apply for the entire track.

2- My computer generally crashes when i do that.

Anyone, please ?

Thanks in advance.

For subtle/progressive changes then yes, automation is the way to go. IIRC all the bundled Sonitus plugins are fully automatable, as are most other DX and VST plugins.

However, for things like a telephone effect, I would recommend having a separate track.

It's all in the manual and the help file. Most can be done by assigning an envelope and drawing it to your needs.
