Ok, so I downloaded some cheap free plug ins, but can't figure out for the life of me how to access them. Any suggestions?

Is this Cool Edit or Adobe Audition?
Usually, you just put the .dll files (the plugins) in your VST folder.
By default, this is:
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\
Then on the Effects menu, click "Add/Remove VST Directory"
If that folder isn't there, add it.
Then click the "Refresh Effects" menu to load the new plugins.
If the effects are DirectX, then you'll need to click the "Enable DirectX Effects" menu too.

Yeah, I have cool edit, and I don't have that folder. Any other place I could search?

Try to look here: C/Program Files/Cool edit/vstpluginsandycerrone said:

You can always use "Search" function on your PC.
If you know the name of your VST then just go to Start and do the Search.
Windows will find your file and you will be able to accec to path of your folder where that particular file is located.

There are two types of plugins, VST and DirectX. (They use a different language or something.) Older CEP programs cannot use VST plugins, only DirectX type. You must have Microsoft's DirectX software installed for them to work. (Most Windows machines already do.)
After downloading plugins, create a folder somewhere on your hard drive for the plugin files to be kept. You should name this folder "Plugins," or something you can remember for future downloads.
Copy (or run install) the new plugins into this new folder.
Startup CEP and go to the edit window by clicking the waveform icon, (upper left.) Click EFFECTS then click REFRESH EFFECTS LIST.
CEP will scan your drive for any new recognizable plugin files and add them to your effects menu.
Serve with your favorite wine and enjoy!

Just kidding. I can't upload the plug ins that are dll files. I don't know why, though. Anyone have problems with this?

Ok, they are VST programs, I'm assuming my CEP is too old for it then. God dammit. So much for free plug ins, haha.

search for 'VST wrapper lite'......you should then be able to run most of the apps.
....sorry, not much time at the moment to explain.

The VST wrapper program attempts to convert VST plugins to the DirectX language. (I think maybe the translator always runs overtop of the plugin like a shell, but I am not certain.) While it usually works, those "wrapped" plugins tend to slow things down and crash a lot.superspit said:

Why not just search for DirectX plugins? The Internet is full of them.
Keep in mind that other programs such as photo editing, drawing/paint/CAD, animation, etc., all use DirectX plugins also. You need to be sure you are downloading plugins for audio programs. Of course, their description should tip you off to that.

Yea that's a bitch I want to use Drumagog but CEP2 wont support it and I a dummy on the PC so I wasted 300$ and had to sell the Drumagog for half of what I paid.
