How come we don't see more low pass filters..?

Yeah. Depending what country you're in (the standards vary) the bass response of AM radio goes down to 40-60Hz.

Which is pointless since most people listen to it on a cheap transistor radio with a 2 inch speaker, not a Quad tuner!

Leave orf! I have fond memories of listening to Grand Hotel on the "Third Programme" thru a 10" driver I had obtained from somewhere. Dad, mastercraftman (organ builder) had made a 2cu ft reflex enclosure for it and I hooked up to a passing decent AM radio with all of 4 watts output (prob' 6v6). Loved those growling basses and bassoons!
That was a time when people sat down and LISTENED to music!

It was actually quite hard to sell Joe Pub' FM you know (I was in electronics retail, servicve tech). The extended HF gave the impression of light bass.
