How come i cant record in stereo?

im going through line in on my sound card from my dbx preamp and when i try and record in stereo only the bottom bar is recording while the top bar is not, just a straight line through....

can anyone explain this..

If you're coming out of a mic preamp (mono) then you're only patched to to one side of a stereo input. And that's what you seem to have.
