I have an imac ..The big one everybody seems to hate....

I have absolutely no experience with audio applications.....(Except tryin' to hook up my 1880 to the VS Logic which turned out to be a big mess... Logic started erasing all my tracks...and now I know through research it was a buggy app. to start with...!!!)

How can I best put it to use and with what software/connections... I have a MOTU fastlane
Right now I working on a CD project ( Vs 1880-880ex) getting pretty close to a wrap up ...I hope...

Check it...

http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/...&cty=US〈=en

And I'm staring to think...Maybe it's good for mastering or something

Actually i have some clicks that I'll have to remove somehow................

I've been reading a little about Spark XL2.6.... and eMagic logic platinum ........would it be worth to invest in any of those to use with the Vs.........Any body using it

So if anybody has any good suggestion please come forward......And I'm sure there's gonna be a number of folks who's gonna tell me to get rid of the iMac and get something else............it was a present and it's not the right time to get rid of it yet

Thanks in advance netroM

I'm wondering the same thing...

My friend said he'd sell me his old 400mhz G3 iMac for $300. It's a pretty good deal, especially since it's got OS X on it. Would this work okay as a software sampler and/or drum machine, until I can afford to buy some good dedicated equipment? What kind of software should I get for it?

I've got plenty of other computers. I'm just looking for an excuse to buy this one really...and since it's all-in-one, I can just set it up next to my Yamaha AW16G and go from there.

Thanks

How 'bout a Virtual Lava Lamp proggie for the iMac? It's too deep to be a bookend, unless your shelves are really wide...

i macs also make good paperweights. i was thinking about construting a toaster out of one. you could put a clear plexiglass panel on the side and make a cool hamster cage out of it. for geek olympics you could toss them instead of a shotput. possible doorstop. a makeshift stepladder for wee-folk. cut a slit in the top and use it for a kleenex dispenser. anything else . . . ?

I've seen an IMac plus a M-Box make a great little portable recording system. You get your interface, pre amps, and software, and you're ready to start rolling right away. As long as you're doing not too many tracks, it's great. Most people starting out recording would get lots of use out of the setup. Then if you were doing arrangements with lots of tracks and plug ins that needed more power, you just get a G4, transfer your files, and plug the M-Box into the new computer. Macs are so easy that way.

funny, i didn't know microsoft made pentium 4's?

Also, don't remember Micro-Slop buying a company and trashing half its offerings, just cause they couldn't compete any other way... (Can you say, Logic for PC? funny, neither can Apple...)

don't get me going on the apple/logic conspiracy. Logic is the only decent sequencer for PC. all the others suck including Nuendo. what in the fuck am i going to do? me and my engineer sisters are walking on pins and needles. I can't stand apples slow-ass expensive Hardware and the Digidesign monopoly. guess i am going to have to run Logic into the ground and hope something decent is developed by then. perhaps osx may be ported over to PC. looks like it may help apple survive because it shure as hell is not going to survive with its hardware. so far apple has switched its os architecture to a Unix base (pc) and now it is borrowing cpu architcture from AMD (pc) give it up! better yet maybe people would just start using analog again.

99.9% of pentium 4's run windows

windows=sucks
pentium 4's=windows
pentium 4's =sucks

basic algebra.

Imac G5

I am getting ready to buying a G5 IMAC and hooking it with the Digi 002 and Pro Tools. Now that should be good power?

So what's your question? Yes iMac G5's are very usefull for recording purposes. You may want to top off the RAM (I think it goes to 2.5 gb). Also, an external hard drive wouldn't hurt.
