Thanks to all who help us newbies on this board. I have learned alot from reading from all you "old pros".

I have a somewhat of a crazy chain, but right now it fits my use and is somewhat portable. I record mainly acoustic guitar, ele guitar and vocals.

Here is my current chain.
To track:
mic > pre > Korg D1200

To Mix i then:
KORG Hard Drive > USB > PC > Vegas

My PC has a M-audio card that I use to drive my monitors.

The KORG has SPDIFs(optical) and the soundcard has SPDIFS(RCAtype), but right now, they are not being used.

Is there some way I can utilize my unused SPDIF's with my current chain?

Thanks
Brian

If you mean connect the two together, the answer is no.

I don't know why Korg decided to use optical SPDIF on the D12, it seems to be much less common than the RCA type SPDIF connection. I don't know what you would have to do to translate a signal from an optical connection to the RCA type.

Actually... They do make adapters, but there's no point in doing it in your case.

Thanks for your help.

BTW, I have read the KORG manual, I done a search on this board and the web, and I look at the pictures and read the captions in Sweetwater, and Full Compass, and I still can't figure out what exactly the SPDIFS are used for. Can you help?

It's just another way to get audio from one place to another. SPDIF transfers the audio in a digital format. The nice thing is that you can transfer a stereo track using a single SPDIF connection.

Subtractor - if he/she wanted to connect a synth module with RCA spdif outs to his Korg D12, what sort of adapter would be needed?
