Carlos played SG's for years (and SG copies) before he started playing the hand built guitars that he guy who fixed his gibsons was making. Depending on the era santana sound you're looking for, try the Gibson faded SG, the real thing for around $579.

The Santana is the only PRS guitar with a 24.5" scale. Go ahead and look it up. Santana was nearly the first guy that Paul Reed Smith built guitars for, and they were closely modeled after the SG's (which are 24.75") Carlos was playing then.

Santana played a Gibson SG at Woodstock, but not too long after that his main guitar was a Yamaha SBG-500 that was given to him by a friend.

The SBG was stolen sometime in 1975 while he was on tour.

The Yamaha was the SG copy I was referring to.

Last I saw, Carlos had plenty of SG's in his guitar collection still :)

NO one uses one guitar exclusively, even Paul Reed Smith himself boasts some prety cool non-PRS guitars.

another guitar that is close to the p.r.s is the shecter brand. i dont know the model number but they are almost identical . the inlay paterns are very cool looking. they retail for about 1100.00 canadian dollars.

the model is the schecter c-1 very sweet looking. tommy lee is endorsed by the company.

The reason those Schecter's look and play so good is because they're also manufactured by Samick. ;)
