How Bad Are Gibson Studio Les Pauls?

a late 70's - early 80's Ibanez Artist Solidbody double cutaway
may do you right for les paul-type sound and tone. very heavy guitars some, of them... and set necks with smooth rounded
heels... the necks are *not* thick, nor extra wide, as Ive noticed
on jackson guitars, for instance.

playability and craftsmanship is also more pleasing than the LP Studios i've picked up & played.

$$$ will vary, and Ibanez's current variations of the Artist series guitars in production will not satisfy the itch you seek to scratch.

I would think, you'll probably be able to fetch one of these to your
stable for the cost, or less than, of a L.P.S.

happy hunting =>

Already have an Ibanez, thanks.

So a local shop is giving me an awesome deal on a Studio ($800)or a Gothic ($915). Now I have to decide which one I want.

IMHO, the Gothic is a bit cooler and I like the ebony fingerboard. However, the wine red Studio is very nice and I might get annoyed with not having fret markers except for at the 12th fret. The studio is cheaper too...

Decisions...

i had a black studio with gold hardware. it was awesome but it didn't fit the sound that i play. it just didn't skank, but boy could it crunch.

7 years ago I paid about $700 for my wine red Studio, so your price seems real decent considering typical prices for that model today. in fact, it's almost suspiciously good. check it out carefully (I say that not to deter you).

I went with chrome hardware which still looks brand new after some heavy gigging and neglect. not sure if the same can be said of the gold color plated hardware, but some feel this is part of its character when that stuff starts to peel or tarnish.

you probably won't go wrong with either of those machines, Studio or Gothic, just play both a lot before deciding between them as they all have minute differences in feel and tone

goth's .. i like black... i even like the way the paint wears and starts shining a bit where you abuse it alot...
