The acoustic was a Yamaha that I borrowed--nice guitar, very bright. (that was before I bought my Breedlove...

)Single note lines work really well on this guitar, but the brightness can make chordwork a little overpowering. I used a cheap MXL 990 (come to think of it, it might have been the 991? Shit, now I can't remember...

)about a foot away, positioned around the 12th fret. When you throw a mic there, you get a lot less "finger noise" and more "soundhole". There's a little bit of fret buzz on that guitar, so I doubled it up with a clean electric...worked out better that way anyway for the harmony parts.
My room is pretty crappy too (my "studio" is my bedroom), and acoustic sounds can be a pain in the ass. But this is gonna sound really weird...the pick I was using turned out to be the best part of the signal chain!

I usually use those heavy
Dunlop Gator Grips for all the electric work, but there's these bizarre pink picks that a friend (same guy who owns the Yamaha) had made up for his wedding. For some reason, these damn things sound incredible on an acoustic...real snappy tough plastic that hits a string just right. I dunno...sounds pretty stupid, yeah?
Not much in the way of effects on this one...if I remember right, I didn't do much eq-ing on the acoustic parts unless they started crunching too bright during the heavier parts. They were compressed a little bit too, and I threw some reverb on the acoustic just to smooth it out a little. All of those were N-Track plugins. Everything was run into a Yamaha MG mixer, and nothing was adjusted on the board except preamp gain.
I've started recording with the Breedlove, and damn...this thing is great. I'm using an MXL v67g now and getting some pretty rich results compared to the brightness of the other chain.
