The distortion from marshall heads rules. The guitarist in my band has a dual super lead and i don't think there's much else that could close to sounding that good except maybe a mesa boogie for the type of music we were recording.
I just used an SM-57 slightly offaxis and got a pretty good tone and didn't have to much with after tracking to give it a good place in the mix.
I don't know why you would buy a marshall head and use a pedal like that for the distortion sound. He's got a great amp, might as well take full advantage of it.
