Hopeful Collaboration

Shaky Tee - Thanks for checking out my stuff! This is the first time I have heard from you and I appreciate your thoughts on the tune and your faith that strings can be successfully added to this.

I never could come up with anything more, melodically, in this one and it is why I am excited about the thought of getting some other DNA into the mix.:D

HevyD - Closer to the heart, I think it was called by Rush and yes, I guess there are some over-tones of that kind of vibe in my track. I am, as always, humbled that you liked the track and the bass sound which was not really recorded any differently then many of my other projects but, it is probably due to the upper fret work on this track that contributed to the different sound on it.

About the lyrics; The song was written by me many years ago and to some degree they are still very current and meaningful to me and glad they struck a cord for you too. Thanks, Dan! :)

elephant - Thanks for checking out the track! Your advice on the guitars in the intro is sound and perhaps SV can take a hint from that in terms of spots in the track to build on and fatten up with natural strings. I want to keep this song as acoustic as possible and perhaps with the right viola work, it might just come to fruition!

The thoughts of muting out the drums in that spot is also not a bad idea either. It might add some additional dynamic contrast to the song. Thanks!

Ismellelephant - Thanks for giving the song a spin and for your thoughts and compliments about what I tried to do right. It's appreciated.

As for moving to Canada; Many people come here for that reason and stay for the beer and back bacon!!;)

joro - You know, you are making this harder for SV to live up to the expectations of doing this song justice with some real strings in it. I am sure he is up to the challenge and am anxious to see what he comes up with here.

No pressure, SV!!

As for the bass sound, check my response to HeavyD.

Khompewtur - Thanks for checking out the track and for your kind words and comments on the bass needing a bit more bottom end to it. I will give this serious thought as to whether that can be achieved without killing the drum's space in the mix.

skids - Thanks for the listen and the words of praise about this mix being an improvement on my previous efforts. In large part, the praise should go communally to the clinic as I have learned a lot here from you guys and I am trying to be a good student!;)

About the electric guitar at the end of the song; I think I intensionally kept it back in the track because I wasn't 100% pleased with what I had played there and didn't want a less then perfect part sticking it's nose too far out. It also leaves more room for other things, like a violin or Cello part!;)

MC Gitarz - I never pictured myself in a stadium playing to a loving crowd with lighters in hand but, you do paint a wonderful picture and i thank you for it! Thanks as well for the appreciation of the drum work done on this one. Yes, the Roland Octopad is touch sensitive and allows for dynamic play with drum sticks. It's really a poor man's V-Drum in that you just plug it in via midi, assign some channels and sounds along with the dynamic sensitivities you want for each pad and then commence to smacking it as best as you can. Sometimes I screw up and hit it properly!:D

Thanks again to everyone who checked out the track!

Cheers! :)

Hey Ghost.

I'm from Ottawa so naturally I hate this avec passion :)

Great guitar sound. I think this is the best I've heard your voice on any of your tracks. Amazing flow, Ill be keeping this tune.

Love it.

call me sam.. :D it must have been a spacial anomaly of some kind..

good tune here ghost.. probably my favorite that you posted.. strings will sound good on this.. there's lot's o room for additives.. the mix sounds pretty good to me.. I have no real suggestions that wouldn't just be preference.. I miss my 8 track Teac reel to reel.. they wanted too much money to refurbish it..

Analog: The anti-harsh!

Nice mix!

Only nit pick I can come up with is there is a gathering of hat, pick, & vocal sibilance in there. You should break up that party. :D

The bottom end sounds pretty balanced. Gotta love that tape head bump. :)

Wish I had the funds & room for a good analog setup. The 'ol DAW would get real lonely.:p

Enjoyable listen. Sounds pretty good already too. I envy your capabalities to hold back on overdubs LOL :) There's enough room for strings, for sure. You've got a pleasant voice. Drums are simple, but very effective.

But eh one nitpick....is that a bass or a guitar? I'm kiddin', I know it's a bass. But that's a lot of upper fret stuff and a very basslight sound. Crystally clear and well played, but I'm missing beef...personally.

O, and lemme guess...you're a guitarplayer playing bass right?

lynx - Thanks for checking out the tune and glad you hated/loved it? Either way, I think I understand.

B.SABBATH - Thanks for the listen and compliments.

About NWR; I was having a hell of a time trying to upload this song. It took several attempts to get it to not show up as a zero bit file and now, NWR tells me I have changed files too often and can't delete or add a song for two weeks!!

I am not a web or computer genius but, there is problems with the site at times. No offense intended to Waldo.

M.Brane - Good ears! and good speakers you must have to catch that bit of sibilance. I was wondering if anyone was gonna pick up on that and you nailed it. Once SV has time to do something with this, I will pay attention to this in the remix.;)

Pedullist - Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I am indeed a guitar player by nature but, I do like playing bass as well and often, my friend Doug and I will interchange roles on each other's tunes. I am actually going through a debate with him right now as to who actually played bass on this track as it was recorded a few years back at this point. He hears some mistakes in the playing and feels he played it. I seem to remember doing the part and the entire song as a solo project? Either way, mostly all of our tunes are considered a group effort and if it does turn out to be him who actually played bass on this, he deserves some praise too for a job well done. I will have to check the track sheets and see if anything was documented.

Cheers! :)

The 0 byte error was addressed, and lasted about 3 hours... What it was, simply, was that the free server (not free for me, but free for you) ran completely out of space, so the files couldn't be uploaded, even though the database was properly updated, and the file was actually 'sent'.

It will happen again, but I've bought some time by deleting really old files and such. Wish I had some extra bones to buy more drives etc., but it's going to have to wait until I pay my rent!

P.S., no offense taken, I know about problems long before you guys do...

I HATE the hand claps.. ok.. :)

yup. vocals are too wide spread IMO..

Bass is too.. um.. nasal?

accoustic sounds great, but it's doubled in some weird way that makes it feel 'fake' in lack of a better word...

IMO.. skip the stereo hysteria and go for a better blended mix. This song is not a 'whole'.. it sounds like 4 different songs that just happened to fit together by chance..

best wishes

Waldo,

I might be coming across a 20 gig Fujitsu in the near future that I really don't need. I could donate it if you think you could use it?

PM me with contact info of where to send it. And clear my "bad-boy" status while you're at it, Sir!:D

Cheers! :)

A comment or two about the track would be nice too if you have the time!

I'd love to listen, but I just came home from the job (paving) and was on the roller for just over 5 hours... My ear won't work like shit right now.

Could possibly use the 20GB to 'stave off' issues for a while, ultimately I need a TB or two... Drop me an e-mail (any address on the site @nowhereradio.com goes to me).

As far as this 'bad boy' status, not much I can do, it's an automated count that happens every night! Worse case it takes 2 weeks to clear (if you deleted a track a day less than two weeks ago, then it will remove 1 point from the rotation count tomorrow, and you'll be able to upload again). It's there to prevent abuse of the system.

In the future, though, use the 'Update' feature when it's the same file (or a new mix of the same track), instead of deleting and re-uploading, then your rotation count doesn't increase, and this doesn't happen.

This reduces load on the server, reduces space used, and overall, saves me alot of headaches. (Not to mention you, the one who exceeds the count ;) )

Toronto, Toronto

As always, your comments are appreciated and welcomed!

Cheers! :)

Just goes to show that Analog absolutely ROCKS!! Beautifully full, rich and fat sounds! Great work Ghost! I would like to have the vocals centered though. (Ok, sue me, I like my tunes simple ;) ). Very well mixed and recorded otherwise. Again, great work!!

I must say, the mix on this pretty nice and full... but that bass guitar just kills it. :p (for me at least) It's just dead. No balls. :D Get you a 5 string, run it through a gigantic amp with more wattage than Cleveland and play the entire song on the low B string... THEN you'll have you a bass track. :D

That said... the recording is not bad by any stretch. Good performances.. decent seperation.. bring that solo up at the end... drums are a little "sanitized"... and not too hip on the hand claps. (sorry... just thinking while listening. :p )
