listen to some recent songs from Of Montreal... sampled drums. it does work.

disconnect the dots

lysergic bliss

this is the style I would use sampled drums for.

I agree, and for what this particular band does, it totally works.

When electronic drums are done tastefully and artfully ... they can take on a life and become an instrument, moreless, in and of themselves.

Unfortunately, that's not the way most people use them, and it rarely achieves that effect. Too often people use them as a substitute for real drums, and try too hard to make them sound like a real kit. Which simply isn't the point. A good band, like Of Montreal, obviously uses them to achieve sounds and textures that otherwise cannot be achieved accoustically, and it works for them.

you'd probably hate recording me as a musician because I get all perfectionist when it comes to the performance. especially since I hate my voice.

If you hate your voice, then why sing? :D Never understood that one. Would you become a model if you thought you were ugly, and would you be a cook if you hated your cooking? Oh well. Enough of my ranting for this thread, I suppose.

i'll be honest, the ross clark trio recording is the only one that sounded pretty descent. the rest i agree with chessrock on. to give you the benefit of the doubt, i am not on my studio monitors and these are streamed mp3.

agree with this. ross clark trio, probably a good sound going in.
I recorded a bluegrass band and being a dipshit myself, they're tracks were the best i'd ever done....mainly because I didn't have to do anything!

I thought the other 3 of your mixes all had the same muffled sound, maybe benefit from a mastering process? in the common 300hz-ish range, muffle shuffle brumbling in the bass area. (its an all too common sound on my own mixes and many HR mp3's)

you mentioned these are all "MP3 & marginal" in your original thread.
maybe this contributes to some of it. but I don't think so, I've heard alot of good sounding MP3's. This is the old MINIDISC debate crap, Oscilliscope data...MP3 is better than most audio thru the 60's,70's,80's. Look at crackly 45's, muddy 8-tracks, hissing garbled cassettes, .......its all relevant.
I wouldn't blame this on the MP3.

my playback is pc>onkyo consumer amp>infinity towers.
nothing special, but the store CD's sound good on it.
(not plastic pc speaker shit cabs)

oh and by the way, my mixing abilitys suck, so I can't give you much help either!

What is homerecording.org? Is it a place where seasoned engineers come to flex their recording skills among us "home recording laymen" in order to bolster their egos. Is it a place where budding engineers come to display their latest work to get approval from the lesser drained ears? I would think that people like this would be more inclined to visit the other more professionally oriented discussion group out there - you'd definitely get better guidance elsewhere. I thought homerecording.org was for the common joe who records at home who may or may not make a buck or two at it. No? Help me out here, I'm confused but it might be this stought ale I'm drinking too :)

that's the first laugh i had all day thanks!
yeah my idea of HR is the same as you mentioned.
I don't know its HR man, there is no meaning or definition..its all just gearjead bullshitting like at a pub...except you serve yourself and you don't have to tip...<hiicccuuup!!(*>UUUUUuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrpp...>
anyway, the MP3's are for real.

edit (deleted my bs..so nothing lost as usual):
On a more productive note-
The April 2006 RECORDING mag, has Low End as a topic.
I think thats a great fit for these songs reviews.
One pro even mentioned the REALTRAPS on his list. Most said Low End is no easy matter.
One of the better releases of this magazine, due to the "Low End" articles. IMO.

The mags only a bit more than a gallon of gas these days too. doh!

I don't know why I sing. No one else will and I have written over 200 songs and I need to get them out.

thats a different thread but you need a publisher/ ar thing going.
at least your going forward, instead of shopping in Guitar Center.

I ve heard a few of your's some of its dynamite, its just the connection thing, the industry thing. or just be a whore and sell your songs to someone and that'd be fun.
seriously, start calling publishers in the yellow pages. your ready.
