Doc,

I totally agree. That's why I want to start by getting a list of people who are interested in contributing music and/or other talents.

I wouldn't recommend that anyone start uploading files specifically for this project just yet.

I figure when we get a list of serious people who want to contribute music, then we'll figure out how many songs we're talking about. Maybe we will need 2 CD's, maybe one. I figure it's up to the artist to decide which song he/she wants to contribute, but if he's not sure then the members can vote.

We'll also need to vote on the song list as well when the time comes.

Big Point: Everyone has an equal say in what happens because this is for everyone, from everyone. I'd really hate to have a small group or single person make critical decisions since this type of project doesn't really warrant it.

I can spare a couple of gigs easily, more if in a real pinch.

Wow!

I didn't even know about this thread until S2K sent me some email...I've been hanging out on my boat (the one that can't go anywhere, but does have a phone line :-) and fixing the site with JavaScript hacks from my laptop, came home, and walked into this...yikes!

I worked on one of these with Mixmasters. It took well over a year to do anything. I stupidly volunteered to do the art when I was heavily into reviewing graphics programs, but by the time they were ready I had a hard time finding a program that would do up a good CD insert (actually, Microsoft Publisher was great, lets you invert pages easily).

I can tell you one thing, it is important to make sure no covers are used or everyone associated with the project will be sued eventually, and that would include me if the HomeRecording.com name is used at all.

I'd love to get involved somehow as long as I wouldn't be in a position to slow the project down at all (warning: I am real bad at followup paperwork). Special member-only forum or whatever...let me know.

Great idea, S2K, and thanks for keeping me in the loop!

Tell me when and where to sign. By the way, rec.audio.pro just finished their second compilation of 7 full length CDs. I joined just when they were finishing up so I didn't get to contribute. But I bought one though for $25US w/postage included and recieved one of the first shipment of 100 just a few days ago. Harvey of ITR Studio; www.itrsudio.com was the one in charge of it. But there were plenty of really pro people to donating their specialties to put it all together.

Comps are a very special artform... You really can hear the difference in production when you play a whole CD of songs that were each recorded individually.
Ever have a song that you love and think it has the best sound ever??? Then put it on a mixed tape and find out it has no low end or punch compared to everything else on the tape???
Comps are a valuable learning tool, especially for people like us who are trying to sneak in the back door of the recording industry.

I completely agree. However, sometimes, you must think about the style. And if it's not the style, it can be the producer. You can do various mixes on the same song, and a lot of times, they can sound completely different (which some interpret as quailty) just by changing the type of FX, the amount, compression, etc.

That's very true. I know that after I played my latest tune right after listening to dmc's last mix it sounded horrible (mine that is).

I'm sure Ed will do a good job of getting everything sounding ok together.

The thing about most Comp CD's is that they have a theme whereas this one will not. Obviously there's going to be a lot of musical variation and it's bound to sound strange together. Should be cool.

I'm in! This'll be cool.... I'm already thinking way too much about what song I want to submit. Good luck getting everything together; wish I could help more, but I kinda suck at graphics and all that.

Hey,Hey, count me in as well, gotta a new mp3 or two we're gonna put up hopefully in the next day or so,,,2 thumbs up slackman great idea!!well gotta go my wife's hitting me in the head again.......

Sure, If you think it's good enough, I'd love to contribute...but the only things I have right now are analog stuff like the one at juston...if the producer could make mine sound as good as your computer stuff, dang right...and count me in for sending a little money plus buying some cds....I'll post some more stuff in the mixing clinic, if maybe something else of mine might work better with the compilation..you guys are all way better musicians than me.....gibs

Slack,

Great idea! I'd be interested in submitting a song and contributing financially.

I'd be happy to contribute some material, but this 'puter o' mine is too old and slow to load the music. I'd have to send a compact disc. I could have it mastered before sending it..... would that be okay?
Oh, and the money part is no problem.

Count me in...

Is there a deadline as to when the mp3 has to be posted somewhere??

Im nowhere near ready with my first project, but I'll be happy to help in any other way I can. Ill definitely buy a few copies of the CD. And I'm officially signing up to contribute a song to Volume 2! This is too cool.

I would like to contribute a song and time/money to the project. I think this is an awesome idea. I just hope Dragon will contribute a song or two :) :)

I'm in the same place as gibs. My stuff is 10 years old, analog and the master is on Beta VCR, which I'm waiting to get back from the repair shop. The drums were all canned and really suck but I'd be happy to upload one of the better tunes when the deck gets back. We won't have any new stuff till March.

I don't know what I have to offer the project, but count me in if there's room.

And the list keeps growing and growing....

Maybe we'll need 2 CD's!

jitteringjim
Emeric

Jon X
drstawl
dragon - maybe??? don't be shy

Would like to buy: Cooperman, Topjimmy, and Gidge.

Still waiting on more. Anyone know when Dobro's going to be back? I emailed a few others who haven't been able to log on for a while too.

Right now we're looking at 20 songs. We could probably still do it on one CD since most of our tunes are pretty short; 3 minutes or so.

Gidge mentioned that he'd like to contribute to Volume 2. If this works out as well as we hope it'd be great to make this an annual event!

Anyway, there's room for all so don't be shy if you haven't signed up yet. It doesn't matter if you think your stuff sucks. I think my stuff sucks. That's not the point.
