This is going to be either a media vault, or a hard disk recorder closet. I can't decide, but anyway, it was fun to build. The cedar tongue/groove paneling was in good enough shape that I'm leaving it. I can sheet rock over it, cover with carpet, whatever.

BTW, if you're sick/bored of my pictorials, just say so, I'll find something else to do :)

BTW, I don't recommend operating a table saw sideways, in a small slanted closet like this even with a dust mask. LMAO

Thanks...

I'm fairly good at maximizing space. Give me an inch, and I'll shove 5 pieces of rackmount gear in it :)

I love your pictorial things you are a true DIYer sir and an inspiration.

did i go a little over the top there? i think i did

I noticed it right away as well as it's purpose.

Aaaah, okay.

When I was scaling the picture down to BBS compatible size, I was looking at it and for whatever reason, I expected to have to explain the forward facing piece of wood :)

Notches like this is what happens when you change your mind along the way. Originally I was going to leave that little cove as-is and extend the producer's desk one more rack since sadly, I don't have enough space.

Then I was looking at all the crap on the floor thinking... I need a closet...

However I found another place to put the "extra" rack gear ;)

Hey frederic, that looks like a perfect "amp booth". :p

heh-heh, the amp(s) will be under the console table in the corner out of the way. Already ran the wire :)

I wired for 7.1 even though I'll only be setting up 5.1, today. I figure someday, I may need it and I'm NOT tearing the walls apart again. Also, I ran two pair for every monitor, just in case something burns up, I have spares. Speaker wire is cheap anyway :)

I'm really thinking this is a good place to store media. I have carton after carton of DVD and CD blanks, miniDV blanks, and a pallet of 2gig hard drives for the records (yes, a pallet) which I have to stack and store somewhere...

When we moved here I was so excited to have a 20'x13' room for my home studio, more than double the size of my old home studio (10'x9'), but for some reason, it all doesn't fit. Maybe because my prior home studio had four 7' tall racks :)

Here is an interesting observation...

I framed the opening with 2x4's using deck screws just because it was convienent, and the door is 3/4" thick MDF with a door knob, nothing fancy by any means...

But now that the door is there, the room sounds noticably better with the same material playing through my front monitors... a little less bassy. I have a "lump" around 120-125hz I haven't treated for yet, and my sub definately overpowers the room (bass problems, doesn't that sound familiar!), but this little closet door thing seems to have at least partially tamed these problem frequencies.

Most interesting...

3/4" MDF as a membrane absorber, huh? Guess that means that you need to stuff the closet with rockwool rather than storage :D :D

Darryl.....
