I'm a guitarist with an acoustic guitar, a keyboard and a microphone who wants to do basic demo's. I have Guitar Tracks 2 but I'm interested in delving a little deeper into PC recording and was wondering what are the differences between Guitar Tracks and Home Studio? What all does Home Studio have that G.T. lacks? I'm not interested at this time in getting into Sonar but I am possibly interested in the Home Studio software. Suggestions/comments?

Check the Cakewalk website for the comparisions. I think the basic difference is that you have MIDI capabilities in Home Studio but not in Guitar Tracks. Hope this helps.

Go for it!

HS is the Sonar platform without the advanced features, it provides everything you need and it's a great value.

If you are a student/teacher etc go to www.academicsuperstore.com for academic pricing. I think I paid 50 for HS02

Checked the site (just for fun), and I must say:

WOW! HS2002 for $56! That's a great deal! Cakewalk sells it for $129...

GT Pro also supports card with more than 2 inputs. This is a limitation that HS2002 has - it only supports cards with 2 inputs (or one stereo line-in like on a SB)

But that limitation hasn't been a real hinderence to basic recording that I'm doing. I run stereo signal in from my mixer (a tascam portastudio) and I can either record a stereo track or two similtanious tracks (one panned left the other right).

I think the only limit would be if recording more than two signals at a time, like a band or a drum kit. For the solo recorder it's fine.

I guess I hadn't noticed this limitation and can't really compare it to the conveneince of this feature in GT Pro.
