Home Studio in the garage

Hi all,

First time on the forum so hello to everyone. I am a keyboard player with a local covers band. I have a detached garage and i am thinking of converting the garage into a place to practice (my spare bedroom is too small), and if possible somewhere for us to rehearse as well.
Can anybody point me in the direction of the basic rules, layout & particularly materials i would need to use to convert the garage? (ie soundproofing between walls & internal plasterboard walls, roof soundproofing etc).

As far as jamming goes, I have made a switch to end all switches. We used to jam in the basement with the drummer to one side, me (guitar) to the left of him and the bassis to the right of him. We would just slam him with our amps blastin and all the whil you might here some distorted vocals blaring out of an antique PA system. I realize that many people still jam like this (I still do on occasion for shits and giggles). Now, it is set up pretty good. We have a snake in the basement for a direct guitar input, vocal input, and bass input. We run the snake up the laundry chute to an upstairs bedroom where we have our studio gear all set up (the seperation for recording purposes). So the snake goes into the mixer, using effects on the vocals, then I run aux sends to the returns of the snake (4 of them). Connect the returns of the snake to a headphone amp back down in the basement a voila! This way we can turn up and down each individual instrument to suit everyones particular needs.
