What are your goals?

Will you be recording yourself or others? What kind of tracks will you be building, and of what quality?

You'll need at least one Lava Lamp.

also, which instruments.

Here'smy 2cents worth good quailty micpre's and good mics to match with those 2 ingridents your bound to have some great recordings.

well i will be mostly making music with midi...and guitars. im building this to use for myself but also produce others. making mostly jazz, funk, and hip hop.

also what mixer should i get? i heard the behringer consoles arent to terrible for begginers or i was thinking of getting a alesis multimix firewire 16.

What is the obsession with lava lamps? Yes they're cool. Yes I own one. But this is like, the third thread on here that says they are studio essentials...

It's like, if you have to ask about the significance of the Lava Lamp, you just don't get it. It borders on a religious icon.

They blew up some lava lamps on mythbusters one time... Set them on a coil on a hot electric stovetop... Broke my heart! :D

It's also a great running gag. Every forum needs a running gag. It's a bonding thing.

buy reason 3.0
Cubase sx3
a decent condenser microphone, i like the rode ntk
a shure sm57 or two
maybe a pair of small diaphragm condensers such as the msh10 or oktava mk-012
as good a preamp as you can afford
as good a pair of monitors as you can afford:)

if you search the forum for preamps and monitors you will find info on whats good in ur price range

No audio interface?

Also, why buy software when you can download
