My shitty bedroom says it all about the sound.

I have recorded my dog--on several occasions. Does that count?

He makes guest appearances on CDs I produce.

A boxer, though, not a jack russell.

If one is a home recordist and is doing all their recording solely in the same room as their gear, they are ignoring a major part of their gear list. I did a recording in a standard 2-bedroom apartment once where I had the recording rack set up in the dining room along with keys, with the bass and the drums in a bedroom, vocals in the kitchen, guitars in the living room, and some re-amped reverb in the bathroom.

Not only does one take advantage of the diferent acoustics, but walls make great gobos :).

G.

Good advice there. I have recorded a few bands spread out over the house, well their amps anyway.
I Have also done that in an Old Mill where my last studio was situated. I had the keys for the big empty mill rooms and i ran long, long leads to the amps. Sounded great. i loved all the natural reverbs and atmosphere. Only thing was it was at night, Really dark and the band were shit scared to go in there on their own. It was worth it though, kinda made them get it right in one take!! :D

I record in my basement but it's not as bad as most. My "live" tracking area is about 30'x17', my vocal booth is 14'x11', and my mixing area is 17'x12'. Oh and I also have a dedicated "loud" room that keeps most amp noise from escaping thus not royally pissing off the entire household, it's about 10'x9'.

Grandma's 20x22 ft living room. Got a vaulted ceiling. Sounds pretty good with a good drumset in there and even decently cranked guitar amps. Problems; Skylights- can't record when raining, my best LD Cond picks up the fridge turning on 30 ft away, grandma gets mad if I turn the AC off in the middle of summer.

But hell it is grandmas house so who cannot feel warm and cozy there

A funny story about that. a few years ago, my wife and I were working opposite shifts, so I was taking advantage of it to get some tracks laid down while she was at work and not there to nag me.

I had my 50 watt JCM800 and a 4x12 in the large shower stall we had there with a 57 up close and a LDC, don't remember which one, backed off the amp about 2 feet. She came home from work early and came in throught the back door, so I had no idea she was in the house. She decides to hit the can and "read a magazine", so she goes in and flips on the fart fan, which makes enough noise that she didn't hear the hiss from the amp, which was cranked up pretty hot, and takes a seat.

So I put on the cans after taking a break, didn't notice the fan noise in the cans and proceded to blast out power chords. Needles to say, she was a bit "startled" when the amp blasted her off the crapper :D

She was none too happy for the next few days :(

Good thing she didn't decide to take a shower...!

By the way, how'd she miss the cables?!

This is a bit of the history of the place. Conway mill, its pretty historic. I have a few photos, none of the long mill rooms but you can get the idea from the size of the place what sort of area you are talking. Excellent place i miss working there. I am producing a band at the moment who have a rehearsal studio up there, so i am busting my crackers to get a lend of the keys to the Dark Satanic Mills....Thanks william Blake!

Heres one we took for a band i was in a while ago. This is round the back of the mill. That part is pretty much desolate...oh apart from the odd badger....oh and maybe a BeeGee Or two! ( The place is supposedly full of Ghosts...but then so's every old building, i stayed there many a night and never had any trouble....apart from the badgers....damn badger...always stealing me bread):) Terrible name for a band dont ya think? The other guitarist is a star wars nut, he thought it was cool. I thought it sounded like a part of a chinese menu board. :D

Just found this photo, this is one of the long long rooms on the top floor. Pretty wild reverb in there
