Reluctant Commander
Here is what this whole Traynor kick has been leading up to. I built a 1x12 a month ago or so, and I cant decide if I want to leave the Celestion 70/80 in the Vox, or put it in the homade cab and put the Weber Silver Bell in the Vox.

But when I get this 2x10 finished I may not care what I do with the Celestion!

view from the top, freshly stained, and a view from the back, all the extra glue and both steel and wood bracing, all the screw heads are glued, keep in mind I have only power hand tools. No table saw, no router, although I discovered I can cut a decent hole with the roto zip.

Incidentally, the new cab color is "Cabernet"......and the new Traynor amp color is "Wine Red"......appropriate!

Apologies for the poor camera/poor photography....

The little Traynor TRM40, which is actually dual channel, 20w per channel, 2x8, stereo chorus, solid state but its the most tube-like solid state sound I've found, at least for something that small, and it was only $150 shipped to my door! It has a left and right speaker out jack on the back, so I can actually drive two external cabs with it, and it really screams if I do that! It really makes that Weber Silver Bell scream.

The Traynor YCV20WR (for "Wine Red"), this is the all-tube wonder that is going to drive this 2x10 cab. It has a Celestion G12M Greenback in it and it really sings just the way it is. But once in a while I'll check the sound thru the 2x10, and maybe thru the Weber also. But this little thing is superb as is! I could easily be persuaded to sell that Vox and just run on the YCV20.

The other is just a pic of the 3 amps (the VoxAD50VT is included) and my 1x12 cab, all waiting patiently for the little 2x10 cab to join them in the big kennel! (That's what my dogs call the house...... "the Big Kennel!")

SWEEEEET!

What sort of wood is that you're using? Looks like a wood (not MDF or ply). I've heard mixed views on using board wood...some have told me that it can "ring" or resonate. I'm dying to hear your review on how the cab sounds.

Nice...very classy look to the cabinet.

It's just a mix of pine, aspen, and oak, while the speaker mount is birch plywood. Lots LOTS of glue! LOL!!

I think it's true about the resonance, my other cab seems to resonate on about 100-110 hz if it's turned up loud enough, but I think there should be a way to dampen that almost completely by using some extra bracing or some foam or something. I'll have to research that. In fact, I shoudl have researched that before I built it.

I think the 2x10 will be different, perhaps better about not having resonance. But I'm still gonna research how to dampen it.....

Well, those 10's are going to have a punch to them...I can't wait to hear how it turns out. Keep us in the loop...k?

the 2x10 finally joins the family! here you can see the two Legend 105's inside...

Some of the first pictures you posted almost gave the cabinet a red cedar look, very nice looking wood indeed. Are you gonna give the cabinet a nice lacquer or polyurethane clear coat to protect that nice wood?

Here are pics of a 1x15" and a 2x12" I made myself. What a huge tight sound... The 1x15" is been used with a GK head, and the 2x12" as an extension cab for a B52-AT212

Comments always welcomed, even if they suck...hehehe

I really like that first upright cabinet...real classy looking. It's hard to tell,...is that the 1x15"?

Have you played a guitar through it yet?

NICE stuff

That 2x12 looks nice man, good job. Years ago I had a 2x12 similar to that for bass with evm 12's, but I had recessed the front baffle 6" inside the outer walls so it was loading up really well before it left the cabinet. I used a V4 head to drive it.

Man that took effort. Good job

You didn't say what kind of speakers are in there.... if you think it's tight now, try putting a couple of Weber Michigans in that thing.

Those Eminence 105's are sweet sounding in my open back 4x10, and I bet they'll rock in your 2x10!

What a nice set up that would be with my BF Bassman too!

It took me a bit of time but it was definitely worth it and very enjoyable. From now on I think I will make my own collection of cabs.

By the way, the classy one is the 1x15" (I couln't quote the question from above somewhere). I did tryed it on guitar and the sound gets really round and with plenty of punch to please my tastes.

Yes, I had a tight budget so I just put the first speakers I found close to my house. I'm thinking on loading it with weber, eminence or vintg.30.

If you guys got questions, or want any info let me know.... cheers!!

Forgive the ignorance but why the 10" speakers? It seems the norm is 12". How do they sound in comparison? Do they have the same or similar range of sound as the 12's? I'm imagining that they would sound brighter, punchier with less bass response. I have no experience with these...I'm just currious.

Exactly!!

Brighter, punchier, tighter, not so much suffocating bass response.......just because it means I WONT sound like everybody else.

Try playing some wailing, searing blues leads thru a 20 or 30 watt tube amp thru a pair of 100 watt 16 ohm 10 inch Weber Michigans! You'll never go back.... At least, I never will....
