Nice tune! I loved the feel and guts you put into it on an emotional level.
I won't lie and tell you your performance was perfect but, the soul you put through all the wires reached me.
Now, I will have to more seriously consider joining in on this trend and go up to the studio and start shattering some stemware!

Nice singing Doug, and I loved the song too. What kind of guitar are you using, and how did you mic it? It sounds a bit thin to me, almost like a reso, but not quite.
This song could also be easily done as a full production. Something really lush sounding.

Just a b1 into a dmp3 in a small room with some homemade diffusors etc...and I limited the eccesive peaks at the "mastering" stage.

That's Stella. I was going to mentioned that in the first post but forgot. It's a small steel string with the fret length of a classical where you set the intonation by moving the wooden bridge around with your hand. In other words it's a POS, hence the thin sound.

I dug this wholeheartedly.
It's raw. It's felt.
I wish for a warmer guitar tone. I wish the harmonies were 3 dB's or more lower (they're stronger than the lead). I wish for a full-on production effort soon because this has sooo much potential it hurts.

this is where I live - I mean - this has CSN influence with the changing meter and the lush harmonies. Recorded right in my face. I agree with Sluice -I can 'see' you singing and playing.
I agree with the other folks - harmonies are too loud - but I do this ALL the time myself, too. When the background sounds that good I just have to turn it up. Usually re-mixing the tune three or four days later helps with that tendency.
Yeah - guitar is a POS - but in this case it adds to the home-grown feel. But I definitely hear this as a full production and I'd consider using that sound as an intro - just my "think-I'm-a-producer-sometimes" opinion.
Really nice tune - and some nice work - very cool.

CSNY were like the faces in Mnt Rushmore to me and many of the music pals of my youth (didn't they have an album cover like that?).
I love Stella. Right now the strings are pretty old. I'm gonna give her one more chance with a fresh set of phosfer bronses before I bring in the big guns.
It seems I overdid it going for the "big crescendo" of backing vocals at the end. I'm gonna play with that the next time around.

thanks, the dmp3 (compared to my behringer 802a) is crisp enough that I could tack the underpad back onto the cieling to get rid of that fiirst ugly drywall bounce.

I'm not digging the acoustic...sounds like the strings are dead, and it's a little out of tune, and you were too far away from the mic when you tracked it...just no "ring" in the instrument at all.

Geez, I'm trying to get some tracking done here, and everyone's putting up cool stuff, so I gotta respond...
Doug, you got onea them voices where you can get away with not being absolutely perfect, pitch-wise. It's hard to explain, but some people got so much personality in their voice that they have some pitch leeway, whereas other people sound good mainly because of their pitch control, and not so much the actual quality of their voice.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that whatever "roughness" there was to this didn't really detract from the performance for me. You've got a unique and compelling vocal style, and this shows it off nicely.
