First thing struck me was the drums being quite out front and I'd tend to tone those down over the vocals, which didn't sound too high to me.

I agree.

I don't have access to the separate tracks of the instrumental unfortunately, so I did what I could to turn down the kick just a little bit. I also brought the sub bass down, and brought up the vocals.
