King of Bling
And he has no idea how to mix it.

Awhile back, I read a post by Crawdad that was so cool, I stole a line out of it and tried to make a song. I'm trying to EXPAND my hillbilly horizons a bit, and this is the first effort in that pursuit.

I know it has problems, and that's why I'm posting it. I haven't even done any background vox for it yet. (I'm considering enrolling my daughter in a Southern Baptist Choir program so that she can belt some out for me).

But there's one thing I'm absolutely sure about...THE DRUMS ARE THE GREATEST DRUMS THAT HAVE EVER BEEN RECORDED BY ANYBODY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.

Yep, nobody who listens to this could EVER play drums better than the drums on this tune...no way.

I dare you to try...

(please???)

(Oh yeah, I already know it's not very original, but feel free to slam me for that anyway :D :D :D)

Man Chris, you weren't kidding, those are the most awsome drums ever!:D

Nice job on the electrc git.
You ARE an ax man!

I like the line about livin 200 years, cause your so slow to learn.
Really hits home!:D

Your voice sounds great on this, mabey a tad too loud?

Nice writing,I dig it much!

Best to you,
Pete

yeah!
listening right now......."gettin under yer skin"...great lyric!...
voice sounds great on this nice vocal effects...is that you on guitar??...wow...pull back on that delay just a bit....really just a bit...these lyrics are very good.."bridges we burned....very cool..
this drummer is reallyREALLY OUTTA TIME.....lol....NICE SCREAMN THERE.....again imlisten on lo-fi so......it does bleed out a little on those big huge screams.....what thts it?......damn

man this is not what i expected at all...VERY COOL.. now im gonna suffer thru the download on hi-fi...back in a few hours..lol

hey wait amin.....this is the song tidbit from the songwriting forum........right?

Wow, chris. This sounds great. Yeah, there's still a country tinge to it :D The song does still have that country-song pace to it... Kinda reminds me of Tom Petty, in a way...

Sounds mixed pretty well to me; the lead may get a bit loud at times... esp. near the beginning...

The organ is hella cool.

Chad

Yeah Jamal...it was....WHAT AM IIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!! SUPOOOOOOSED TO DO!!!!!

(so, vocal down 12 notches, right?). That's funny...I think I'm the only person here who mixes vocals TOO LOUD!!!

I just pulled up the session, and my damned 'puter reverted to one from like 2 days ago...(gremlins). This'll take me a few...I'm sure the electric git tracks are on here somewhere...

:(
I'll be back

whoa...

Hey Chad...you threw one in while I was writing.

THANK YOU

Hrm...Lead's too loud. (but he didn't say anything about the vocal being too loud...).

Maybe I wait a minute before I go yanking all those screaming vocals out.

BTW - Thanks for listening Pete. I was kinda' joking about the drums...(I'm begging for help in that area...ANYBODY FEEL LIKE DONATING RECORDED DRUM TRACKS TO THIS 2ND RATE KNOCKOFF OF PURPLE RAIN????

:D

That's my problem, things always go right over my head!
I could swear those drums were awsome!:D

wow...so i downloaded it to hear it in all its "sonic glory"...i had NO IDEA you could wail like that...none of your songs ive heard allude to this at all...my wife walked in the house while i was playing it and made me start it over..trust me THAT is a GOOD sign!!....the lyrics in this kill as well.....to me i hear .."my feet FALL right in"...but hey what do i know...."if its a lie...i'll try tp make it true.."?...these are just comin to me im sure you dont need advice on lyrics..lol...oh yeah......i know a guy who plays drums....

humbly
jamal.

Hey Jamal...thanks a ton. Actually, that second line you threw in there is better...hrmm...yep...that'll change. Man, here's what I just learned about the electric guitar. It's WWWAAAAAYYYY easier to play than that "wooden maiden" acoustic of mine. It's a Fender "Squire," which is english for NOT MADE IN THE U.S.A.,

hehehehe

I don't have a high "E" string either...I've got an acoust "B" string on it...but it's still a TON easier to play. That's it...from now on, NOTHING but 'lectric fiddle for this hillbilly.

Now, on a musical note...tell me if you agree with Pete about the vox...I think he's right. I'm fighting the levels between the lead (and slide) and the vox. I need to get it straightened out before I try to start mucking it up with background vox.

Thanks again,
-nobody

If the vox is too loud....it's only the least little bit. And I don't really find it too loud myself.......good singing BTW and a good song. Need a horn section. Nice bass lines and the drums aren't bad. Very good.....the only thing that I'd change is the guitar is a little too processed sounding for me but that's a creative decision and should be whatever your taste desires. Good song man. ;)

honestly chris im listening on the downloaded version...and i dont thinkthe vox are too loud??..maybe if they sucked or were outta key or something ..but these are neither...right after the vocal part on the end of the verse...where your voice drops down in the register..i would bring the guitar up right there..i can hear that its awesome.but its too quiet..btw..all the kick ass guitar (lol)that you hear on my stuff is also a squier strat..its been hotrodded w/fender lace p-ups..but thats it...and i love it(only cause i cant afford a les paul)..im listening again right now...man i like that lead......you need to come up e somethin diff than.."down on my knees...."...soooo over done..but really thats my only complaint....im a TOTAL lyrics guy so those things stick out to me more than most poeple i suppose....well i need to go come up with sumpthin new now..thanks alot....lol...work work work...

jamal:D

Man, Chris! This is cool! Rough edges and all--I'd LEAVE IT JUST LIKE THIS! That's part of the magic--the music sounds like its on the edge and thats good for this song and good in general. If you found a killer drummer, that would be OK, but these drums don't bother me cause the vocal and the guitar make the song soar. They have a vibe that communicates the message and emotion behind the story. Screw seeking perfection. Honest and true is better anyday!

chris,
i would have to agree with what a few of the others have said, don't turn down the vocals....there's no need to when they sound as good as they do.........keep'em where they are. the guitar sounds great, too. the screaming vox are great too. solid song and production wise, it sounds great.

Now THAT'S funny

Crawdad & Powder...while ya'll were listening, I was uploading another version with the vox pulled back a bit. BAHAHAHAHA...I'm such a reactionary.

Thanks to both of you for the listen. I've been posting too much lately, but I SWEAR I'M ALMOST DONE WITH THIS DAMNED "Album."

This helps soooo much. I haven't had to run out to my car to check a mix in over a month.

Crawdad...did you catch the line I ripped off from you? Pete actually pointed it out, and he's right...IT'S A GREAT LINE (nod to Crawdad).

I'll shut up now.

Sincerely,
Mr. "LISTEN TO MEEEE!!! LISTEN TO MEEEEE!!"

:D

chris--yeah, I did hear the line. Good for you! Thats what alert songwriters do--they find ideas wherever they look. Of course, since it was MY line, I want 50% of the song! (no, not really!) However, i am notifying all songwriters that I have patented the use of vowels and any subsequent use of a,e,i, o and u will require a royalty.

As a lawyer, how do think this will hold up in court?

hehehe...I'll put it this way, Al. I sure wouldn't mind being involved in a case like that...

...(as a defense attorney, billing by the heartbeat)...

But I wouldn't take it on a contingency :D

However, you'll be glad to know that I've already written out a check to you for your 1/2 of the royalties for this song. As soon as the amount of the check exceeds the cost of postage, I'll mail it to ya'.

:D

Hey Lt.Bob - I missed your earlier post. Thanks. You've got a horn section...RIGHT?? Or at least, you've got the ability to multi-track horns, right?

Yep....that's me! Meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! :D

Want me to take a shot at it? Probably be a couple of weeks before I get to it.

Chris ,

I thought this was a really nice mix. Good balance and sound between bass and drums. Acoustic guitar sits in there just right.
love the organ sound. what did you use?

The vocal level is purely a matter of taste. It wasn't too loud, and yet I don't think the song would have suffered if you had pulled it back just a tad. Your call.
