I was working with a Yamaha AW16g the other day and it has a 1/4" line/mic Hi-Z input as well as multiple 1/4" line/mic inputs. I was under the impression the Hi-Z was for going straight from the guitar through a patch cord to the input (no external preamp). This didn't work however. The result was the same as all of the other inputs - no levels unless the knob was turned 75% toward "mic", and then distortion was introduced. It was fine running the guitar through a preamp and in to the regular 1/4" inputs with the knob turned to "line", but shouldn't the Hi-Z have worked without it? TIA.
