Hi guys

been browsing a few home recording forums lately and this one seems to be in a language i can understand and pretty friendly. Anyway, like most newbies, i have an issue that needs solving....i am trying to record accoustic guitar, bongos, bass (pretty basic) acoustic tracks. i have an alesis 16 channel mixer, a decent mic (beyerdynamic version of the sm58, cant remember the name) and a few programs on my pc.unforunately im just using a 30 pound pci soundcard not built for the rigours of recording, but will be getting a dmx 6 fire within a month. however im anxious to get some of the ideas i have down just so i remember them (even as an alternative to a dictaphone until my soundcard comes!!!). I have it all set up properly (mixer to line in etc) and any sound i put into the mixer comes out the computer monitors - but i cant record it. i am using audacity (ive tried sound recorder as well though, so its not the fault of the program...) but it wont show up. not a thing. im reasonably advanced with computers, ive checked the line in volume is on, mute is off, correct soundcard is selected etc.... what could the matter be???!!!

cheers folks

When your playing in via the program, are you getting any signal that you can see either on the mixer or in the program itself?

clik start>settings>control panel> sounds and audio devices> audio tab and look to see what device is being used for audio recording. Tha can often be a trouble point.
