Has anybody tried this unit out? Any information would be helpful.

I have one and love it. It's my weapon of choice for drums (toms and overheads).

Thanks for the info. the only thing I'm bummed about is it has no 1/4 balanced outputs. how would i hook this up to a motu 828?

It has +4 balanced outputs on XLRs. Who could ask for more?

Yeah but my Motu 828 has only two XLRs as part of the built in preamps and 6 1/4 balanced inputs. how would I hook it up to the 1/4 inputs?

The XLRs on the MOTU are mic preamp ins. You don't want to use those at all. If the 1/4" ins are balanced (and I strongly suspect they are) and can be configured to a +4 level (again, I strongly suspect they are), that's what you want to patch to.

thats what i thought too but do i need to get a XLR to balanced 1/4 cable? or is there another way to do it? would i need a patch bay?

You don't NEED a patchbay but they're pretty handy. Bottom line, you need patch cables that are XLR on one end and balanced (stereo type) 1/4" at the other. The pinout can vary manufacturer to manufacturer.

Ditto on the drum miking - the thing is particularly SWEET for drums. I also have the Radius 50, same pre in a single channel with tube compressor - I love the thing. I'm not fooling myself that it's REAL high-end tube gear, it truly isn't - but it definitely sounds better than what I've had it up against; dbx silver series, any of the ART stuff, blah blah... The HHB/TL Audio stuff is my favorite mid-priced prosumer gear. Really decent stuff. AND they're purple. Beat that...

i've used the 4 channel pre from HHB...and it's terrific.
