Great song as always, RAMI. The percussion doesn't really come through as I think it could though and overall the mix seems to be a little thick in the lower midrange. But maybe it's just me, who knows. :D

The gang vox are really great though, especially in the second half of the second verse. Well done!

Sounds super. Vox sound good done this way. What a great bass gtr sound. Everything's so rhythmically tight between kick, snare and bass tight it just pops. At 2:58 the cymbal playing groups of eighths, on the far left, stands out maybe a little too much on headphones.

Nessbass and Tim....Thanx for the comments, guys.

Ness, you're right about the percussion. It's a djembe and I don't really know how to play it and had a hell of time recording. So I just panned it to one side and let it do it's thing.....But I have to learn how to record it...maybe I need to put it on a piece of wood????

Tim....Thanx for the heads-up on the cybal part you're talking about...My ride is really loud and I have trouble taming it in every song. I'll tame the highest high on the overheads a bit more.

Thanx guys.

OK, so cut it off and send it to me. :)
Then I'd have to change my name to "RAMI KINTE". :p

Or...well, I have been called a "C.UNTA" on many occasions, so maybe that.

Or we could just call you Coyote...

Sounds real cool  I personally like the choice to have more kick for more groove, definitely has a funky dance written all over it. As the song builds I think adding even more percussion/groove would sound neat. Like some rapid congo action or others for further funkification... nice structure to the song too, keeps you hooked, and good melodies. Nothing to add about the mix, sounds real punchy and tight on my system. Excellent work

Thumping:D Sounds real cool! I like the vocal mix.
Before I say anymore.... I'm on new monitors....this does sound killer on them too! I like the bass tone. Guitars sound nice. Is that everything?

A hair more bite on the rythem guitars to bring them slightly forward and brighten the mix a tad could work for me, but they sound great as is too.
Just a personal preferrance thing.

I like it. :D

I'll huff and I'll puff, and I'll blow your ass to Osh Kosh, Wisconsin!

Oh, wait, that's a wolf.

Never mind...

Sheesh...

Rami, how can you possibly expect the rest of us to try when you keep setting the bar so damned high?!?!?! ;)

You completely amazed me again, my friend. I think the background vox are a bit too quiet. Your uncanny ability to play so tightly with your own tracks makes me jealous as hell.

The little "Hee" or laugh or whatever may be a bit overused but then again, it fits.

Incredible!

FUNKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Likeys the harmonies dude A LOT

awesome

I've not listened closely so won't impart any of my scottish wisdom & advice as most of it's bollocks anyway even when I'm familiar with the stuff :D

Vocals sound good, very P-funkish. The guitar solo could be bigger, a little more Eddie Hazel-ish. This will cause the Mothership to land. :D Good song. I wish I could pull it off as well.

Phunnquay.
This really rocks & bops Rami.
I'm listening to the MP3 this time. I like the Houston line!
I like the sustained notes in the solo - you've mixed old school & new in solo styles - nice combo.
I really locked in groove laden bottom end.
The pauses keep the edge on too.
Bloody hell this is good.

Hey Rami, dig the phunk man! Super tight groove ya got on this....really nice guitar/bass. Everybody knows how awesome your music is...but ya know..I think your lyrical writing on this is just as awesome as well....really really great, relevant lyrics man.So I guess what I'm saying is ya got the total package here :) !!! Just another fantastic tune...congrats!!

Had to come back. Man this is clean & tight! You know something I need to learn :D :o  One nice recording.

7-String, Slidey,LBanks, Rac, Variaxman, Freudian....

You guys really make me feel good. I didn't know if I pulled off a lot of things in this tune. I'm still going to work on it a bit because there are a few things I still don't like.

I need to learn how to record and mix a djembe....learning to actually play it wouldn't hurt either, I guess...hehe. :D :D :D

how did you record the djembe??

Hey Slide....I just put it on a wooden board and got about 2 feet away from a condensor pointing at the skin. The recording level was fine, but that might be all I got right. :D

I did another recording of it in another song for someone else about a week earlier and got better results. That time, I moved my snare out of the way, stuck the djembe where the snare would be, and recorded the overheads to my kit. It worked well, but I thought it might not have been neccassarry to record it in stereo.

So, I tried it in mono this time, but couldn't get it nice and bright. Keep in mind I've never played one before and am just learning the technique now. So, alot of the problem is probably in the playing itself.

Got any tips???? :D

yes...........I would use 2 mics. One on the skin like a 57 (I used a KMS105 last time) for all the slap & I also had a D112 about 45 degrees to the blast hole. I didn't use any ambient overhead at all as there was a lot going on in the track

I have recorded djembes just using a skin mic but some of the lows I find get captured better from the blast hole

boing boing
