Wtf is a PRS
Whats up.

Quick question...

When you guys are building and tweaking your sound in your pods what are you using for your out put?

headphones
monitors
amps
speakers
ipod buds
tin cans

I am mainly using mine for recording purposes. No live applications.

Just curious to know whos doing what?

To clarify i mean Line 6 Pods...

or anyother amp modeller of the sort.

I was mainly just zeroing in on POD's out of self intrest.

I'll tweak my Pod to sound good on whatever I plan on hearing it through - either my powered monitors or my headphones.

I never use mine live so that's not an issue for me.

monitors for me, but i USUALLY only use the POD for scrath tracks. sometimes it'll make it into a song.

my POD mainly sits on papers to keep the fan from blowing them away.
On the rare occasions I use it I simply tweak it then and there until it sounds decent ...... I've never saved a sound yet.

well ...... looking back at the first post ...... when I DO use the POD and am tweaking it ..... I would use the monitors to do that.
My thinking is that they're what I'm gonna mix on and they're what I want the git to sound right on so I should tweak it on them.

I think Lt. Bob's logic re: the monitors makes the most sense. But since I'm only using my POD when I'm trying to be quiet (thus I'm not using an amp) I'm almost always working in headphones.

When it was my main recording device, I'd have to later tweak some more when I heard it in the monitors (hence my nod to Lt. Bob's logic) but now I use it late at night to work out ideas. I always do the real recording with an amp, so I don't bother to "perfect" my POD tones any more.

You guys are missing "it". Of course I use my Pods with my studio speakers and they sound close enough to my ears. But the real marvel is in bypassing the tone stack on my amp and turning off cab emulation. I get that modelled sound bumped up by real tubes and real speakers. With matching amps I get Vox chime on amp-L and Orange grit on amp-R. With a little chorus left and a little tape delay right, it's pure heaven.

why would I want to bypass part of what makes my 'real' amps great and use an emulated amp instead?
Also ...... not all tube amps have a power amp input or fx loop so you can bypass the tone stack.
In fact very many don't.

From Utopia to Mark V, oh I see how it is now!
:laughings::laughings:

Well to be clear I still use the Utopia quite a bit.
But .... I've NEVER used it in preference to an amp.
I use it in certain situations.
1. If I'm doing a gig on the beach or somewhere that is gonna be damaging to my amps.
2. Somewhere that there's simply not enough room to put an amp
3. Certain restaurant gigs that I just don't give a crap about and don't care about getting the best sound .... "good enough is good enough" type gigs. I don't accept crappy sound but in those type gigs I will accept simply adequate sound.

4. I thought I'd use it at home for late night recording but wifey doesn't wake up so I never have to use it.

So it sits behind the seat of my truck waiting to get called.
I have it for emergency use and for those gigs I cited above.
Other than that, it hasn't come out of the truck for like ..... 2 years!

And let me be clear here ....... I'm NOT one of those that looks down on other guys equipment choices ....... I've heard guys sound pretty damned good with modelers. They're not for me but I don't care for Les Pauls either.
It's all personal preference.

No offense taken Bob. I still use Fender amps for live work (always!). But I have always envied those guys who carry in a two-space rack for the whole show. I know a local band that used to carry at least 10 4x12's to every gig! Now there are literally NO cabinets on stage and they use in-ears. They also play some of the heaviest rock/metal around.

So I definately long for that setup, not only because it's easier on the back, but it's just so darn cool!

Having said that, Line6 and I just signed divorce papers. I caught them with another axe!
