Hey Guys i go by Eazy, im a a producer, for hip-hop and r&b mostly and now messing with folk music, im located in Toronto Canada, i used to live in Miami Florida...

i have a question on mastering, im new at mastering, i have no money to pay a professional, i know you guys recommend that.

they question i have is, in wave-lab 6, i read the manual on the way to work, and from work, and still don't understand the last process
which is the burning part

i did some great masters, just one track alone, but i couldn't in the life of me, figure out how to burn it on a cd the right way, the right steps, the manual just throws me off, and i wanted to know how to burn in montage mode, the right steps, especially when adding effects to individuals tracks or should i just do it on the master edit,so the effects apply to all the tracks, and when in montage mode, do i line all the wav in one track or all in diff tracks, which is the beset way, and also how to get the artist name and track names on all the tracks, i searched while i work on this site but no one asked this specific question, i guess its because im very slow on the subject or im bad at searching for my answers, i cant even find it on youtube so if you guys have youtube links instead of wasting your time on me, il appreciate that as well, i really need help please guys

wouldnt you want to render the tracks first?

Like on the on the right the master effect rack, i press render like the book says, and it made all the tracks just one big .wav file, and that alone confused me even more, like im soo lost im losing sleep going to work lookin like a crack head tryna figure this thing out, like i became antisocial tryna find my answers, because i always do these things on my own, now i just think i need to reach out for help, im always helpin others, hopefully i get the favor back in return

You're gonna want to go somewhere better suited to your particular problem.
Try and find a forum specifically for Wave-Lab users and search around there.
That, or at least re-title your post to mention Wave-Lab, as you're really gonna need somebody familiar with that particular program to be able to parse even what your problem is, let alone how to solve it.

I don't know Wavelab, but I can guess that making the whole mix "one big wav. file" is a necessary step before burning to CD. It's basically mixing all your tracks down to 2 master tracks, which is what you want.

alright guys thanks, i seen ppl help alot of ppl here, with all sorts of questions, i guess mine cant be helped, thanks for the time tho

I just realized that we were each using a different definition for the word "tracks". You meant songs, I thought you meant separate instrument tracks. Sorry.

Nah, don't run away so quickly, I'm pretty familiar with Wavelab.

The one question that bothers me is when you asked
when in montage mode, do i line all the wav in one track or all in diff tracks

This kind of tells me maybe you're not talking about mastering. The montage is a place to assemble songs into an order of how you want them on an album. At this point, you should only be dealing with 2-channel wav files of complete songs. 16 bit and 44.1khz if they are going on a cd.

The first song in the montage would be the first song on the CD, kind of thing. Is that what you're talking about???

Wow you guys are the BEST...i gave up all hope, because i dont personally know any body that deals with mastering, just artist and producers

so on montage mode i only use that mode to organize and burn the cd?

so i have to master each wave individually then dither them down to 16 bits, then put them in montage in a cohesive order

so since i did all the mastering in montage i have no need to add more effects or limiter and ect to it?

and would i have to do a second dither since that option is there for me?

and in montage mode, you know how u can just add numerous songs in one track..is that the way to go, or each song go on a track of their own?, and by tracks im not speaking of instruments

Yeah, you can add effects to the individual songs by right clicking and selecting Effects. (Mind you, I've got an old version, so some things might be different.) I recommend only eq and level changes to each individual song. Ideally, you get your songs sounding like they don't need any mastering when you mixdown. Don't fix the mix at mastering.

I wouldn't say 'Master' them individually, but yeah, that's kind of what I do. A little editing, some sonic shaping (but not much) and then render them down to 16bit and 44.1khz with dither. Most of the melding-into-an-album is done in the montage.

so since i did all the mastering in montage i have no need to add more effects or limiter and ect to it?
One major point of mastering is to get your song collection to sound the same. Most likely, you recorded them over a long period of time and used different set ups and they sound different. Only make enough adjustments to get the songs to sound like they were recorded on the same day, with the same people and the same equipment. I make small adjustments to each song in the montage by right-clicking and Effects. Then I use a limiter on the master bus to bring the levels up so people don't have to fiddle with the volume knob too much.

and would i have to do a second dither since that option is there for me?
Nope, dither only once.

Well, maybe version 6 is different than my version.... eh.... er... 1.0 :D (Essentials), but yeah, the montage is to lay out your songs in a "Timeline", provide spacing, pauses, fades, etc.

Burning to CD is the easy part and you should be able to find the CD-Text entry tables. But, entering CD-Text does not put the song title up in Windows or download album art or song lists. You have to register your cd with Gracenotes.com to get that. A whole nuther thread.

Hope this helps.

OMG DUDE i freaking love you!! in a musical way no homo, so when burning can you give me step by step guide? after adding your effect now that i understand that effect adding parts, i just want to know the rendering and ect step. basically everything after im done adding my effect and getting the sound and feel i want for my mix-tape/album/ep

Hmmm, you shouldn't need to render unless you want to save it to a file (which is what I did, load it up and burn multiple copies later without reloading plugs).

Tha manual is pretty clear on how to burn a CD. If you can get all your songs to sound the way you want when you play them in the montage, then you're good to go... burn your cd.
