Dach, I still hear the weird cymbal dropout thingy...
Tjarko - I know what you'r talking about and I tried to pinpoint the cymbal issue yesterday. It must be something going on with Live Synth Pro, because when I hear it and then go back and replay the section to islolate the specific hit, it doesn't do it the second time.

Maybe I will try and mix the drums down to audio. That should either eliminate it, or allow me to pinpoint the spot(s) where it happens.

You won't hear me complaining, that's for sure. Bass is mixed damn loud! :D
You know that you have the perfect mix when everyone in the band thinks they are the loudest. :D

Hmmmmmm, sounds like Audigy behaviour.....and your soundcard was? ;)

Hehe, kiddin' Mike.

It's probably lack of memory, looks like LiveSynthPro is just cancelling one of the channels.

That should be easy to solve: Just set the polyphony a bit higher. :)

And get more RAM... :D

I've already got 512 MB of RAM, and I don't plan on investing any more in a 733 MHz machine.

However, I'll give the polyphony setting a shot.

Moskus,

Once we get this song done if you want a hand working on the FAQ I'll help you out.

James - I don't have an SB Live in my DAW. Only in my internet computer.

I *think* I've narrowed down the problem. Some of the cymbal hits are programmed with fairly long duration times. For some reason this seems to be effecting things. The duration for a percussion hit shouldn't matter. I mean it's gonna sound the same whether its 10 ticks or 1000 ticks duration. So I'm gonna try and shorten them and see if that helps. (Not sure this is the problem, but it's worth a try. Increasing the polyphony didn't help.)

Mike,

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you whole-heartedly. :)

BUT I've found out that Dyad DXi is very particular about note lengths. I was fiddling last night getting some Drum&Bass laid down, and it's obvious that note length is very important. The cut-off of the snares & cymbals is very much apparent, unless a reasonable note-length is used.

Of course, that could be a foible of the particular SoundFont I was using, I think it was Douglas Natural Drums, or something to that effect. I was also using a Drum Map that I successfully edited to reflect the correct number of instruments in that particular patch.

The notes are entered in a Piano Roll-like view and the lengths can be stretched using the pencil tool. This is contrary to the usual GM MIDI Drums diamond-shaped notes we are more familiar with.

What I have found though is that note velocities and volume are both completely ignored using Dyad.

Strange...

Where is everybody who joined this collaboration from? This collab is cool, we have people from every place in the world!!

I know Pedullist played the bass and he's from Netherlands. Who played what and from where?

Let me start: I'm from Brazil, and I'm recording the sax solo (you'll have it soon).

New Joisey!! (Garden State Parkway Exit 124)

BTW, I posted an mp3 of the background vox on moskus' server. Listening to them bare by themselves and without any reverb is not a pretty thing. However, I figured you mixers out there would want to decide for yourselves the type and amount of reverb/compression/eq, etc.

Pedulist: Stasjon, vær så god.

Moskus is probably gonna tell me I just called myself a bald monkey. :D

Frank - this one is quite wierd. When listening to it, it sounds like one of the channels drops out for a split second. But only on the cymbals - not on anything else. (Or it sounds like maybe a cymbal is hit is on the left channel, but the decay occurs on the right channel. It happens so fast it's tough to pin down the exact sound, except that you know something wierd happened. Have you listened to the mix?)

When I isolated one of the spots where it occurs, the only thing I saw that was unusual was that one of the cymbals hits had a full measure duration. Normally that shouldn't effect anything - but I can't figure out what else might be causing this behavior.

Station, please? :D

What the hell are you talking about?

stop = stasjon, holdeplass, stoppested

station = stasjon

I was asking you to "stop, please." I guess the first definiiton for "stop" used the meaning of stop as in a bus stop or train stop.

Maybe I should have said "stoppested, vær så god"

Does that work?

I'm laughing so hard it's hard to write.... :D :D :D

What you're trying to say is: "Vær så snill og stopp"...

And Ped, where did you learn those baaad woooords?!?!

I knew Peds must talked about knees without even have to read his post :D

BloodShark,
I'm at Green House Music Lab. Bandung, West Java, Indonesia... I played (sequenced) the drum part of the song. Like dachay mentioned, I'm not drummer actualy but keyboardist/violist. Playing "two fingers drums" is fun... :D
