I said last week that I was going to have a break.. the day after my Wife and I go to see a band at a club.. my Wife knows the bass player and the sax player in the band, they used to be in another band she knew... I should mention that this is a jazz band.
Anyway, she got up to sing a couple of songs. After she sat down this lady walked up to her and said "I have to give you this", and handed her her business card.. the lady in question moved out here from the States in the 70's and has been performing since.. she has worked with Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jnr to name a couple. My wife didn't know how to take it.. a compliment or not...
On our way out, this lady came up to her again and asked her "Do you sing professionally?", the wife answered "No", she came straight back at her saying "Well you should". "You've got the voice, the presence and a lot to work with".
When we got home we thought about it over night.. I suggested that my wife call a couple of her friends (one who is pretty big in the Sydney Jazz scene and one who is becoming big in it) and see if they know about what she does. Apparently she doesn't take on many students, and the ones that she takes on have to be of a certain standard. So later that day my Wife called her to find out the prices (which we thought was going to be much higher that what it was). When she spoke with her, the lady mentioned that she had been talking with somone earlier that morning and told them about her and was hoping that she would call.
So all in all, my wife is starting vocal coaching / stage performance with this lady in a few weeks time. My wife isn't positive that anything big will come of it (although I think it would be possibly and I'm telling her that), but it's something that she never thought would happen to her..
Personally I'm concentrating on producing a song at the moment for myself, and last night Frank (aka Bluesmeister) shot me an e-mail with a song which myself and Tia (my wife) are going to work on/finish/produce.
Jaymz... I got an e-mail to notifiy me about a new post.. the last line was that classic from the Eagles: You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.. How did you know they were my favourite band ;-) Any yes, would love to hear some songs off that album.. plus even buy a copy ;-)
See you all soon,
Daniel
