Hey John and all. Monitors on the console bridge ....

or on stands behind the console?
Reason I ask is because I have purchased event 20/20 bas
speakers and they are quite large compared to the ns10ms i am used to.I hear a major diff when it comes to sitting on the bridge or sitting on a stand.It goes from thinner and smoother on the stands to alittle harder sounding on the bridge.I know alot is from reflections from table that mixer sits on as well.
Would everyone,ESPECIALLY JOHN suggest on stands due to this change in sound?Or just get used to the speakers on bridge;which would happen soon enough.

A simple way to look at is, you just want the most nuetral sound you can get. Which do you think is more neutral? I'd probably say the stands.
What kind of stands do you have now? If you don't have stands, what did you test the idea with? The stands you want should be decoupled from the console. A big part of the spike in boominess when the monitors were on the console was probably due largely in part to the monitors vibrating the console. Like when you play a guitar and press it against a wall and it gets louder. Whatever you do, wherever you set the monitors, set some studio foam under them. So you'd have, possibly, two peices of 2" studio foam fit into each other, and a (nice looking) board on top of that to set the monitor on. That way you'd definately be rid of the coupling to the console, and then you'd be able to concentrate on getting rid of the actual reflections.

Anyway, I hope this has helped you.

I put my 20/20p on stands a little while ago.
I noticed a big difference in the low-mid freqs. I think they we're resonating the desk a little when I had them on it.
These stands are cool, they have spikes for feet to help decouple them from the floor and are 42" high ... which puts the 20/20's tweeter right at ear level (for me) when the monitors are placed on their sides. I also have each of them sitting on 4 balls of that blue-tak stuff to help decouple them from the stand.
I prefer them much better on the stands ... these monitors have never sounded better.

I have a pair of stands that also have the spiked feet that I a/b'd.My only concerns on my setup is the desk has shelves as so;

Speaker Speaker
computer monitor
------------- -------------
| | | |
------| |-----------------------| |---

And if i put the speakers on stands,they would be reflecting off the open space from the shelves.Because they would be right behind the desk pedistal shelves.
I think i will play a bit more with the idea of either or.
I am just trying to get the best sound without reflecting my self to death.;-)

hi Darr - Rubie whatever ;) I'd put them on the stand but make sure you pad the area across the back of the console to stop high end reflections. You will note that I've padded the section below the speakers in our room to stop just that.

I get it, so your stands sit on the floor. That's very good.
I'm still thinking about what kind of console set up I'm going to have. That's a ways off though. I'm getting sick of recording stuff in my room... can't wait for studio to be done... :)
