I need to make a half-decent recording. i have a good digital 8-track (tascam 788) and instruments, and some shit mics. i have bollocks all cash. can i make a half-decent recording, just good enough for a demo? if not, what do i need - i mean NEED, on budget.

Try not to cross post. Most of us read more than one forum.
And please be specific about exactlywhat equipment you have, especially mics.

Ooh, sorry, i didn't realise how much of a disruption it causes to post two similar threads in amongst hundreds. what, have you got attention deficit syndrome? I re-posted it here because i realised i might be more likely to get a mic-specific reply here, that ok?

i don't know the makes of my mics, they're shit, mine was bought for about a tenner, the other is my drummer's so i don't know, but suffice to say they were both bought on the cheap simply in order for us to actually hear me singing.

When you come here to ask for help, you encounter a hundred people willing to give it - and lots of it. When you come here with an attitude, or with a sloppy question, those same people will simply find something better to do. Nothing personal, but it's just the way it is.

So far the answer to your question seems to be "no," mainly because you haven't given anybody enough information to respond. But "no" doesn't do you much good.

If you ask the question with a little more specificity I'm pretty sure you will encounter someone here with experience with that issue. Then you're off and running. Deal?

Recording skills... do you have enough money for a book? Pickup Dave Moulton's Total Recording, or Huber & Runstein's Modern Recording Techniques.

As well - if you expect help from the great people at this site, then you'd be far better off observing the local custom/rules regarding cross-posting and such.... otherwise, the best you can expect are a few snappy comebacks...
