So this is my first post here, my name's Rob and I recently purchased some recording equipment. I have two condenser mics, and a 7 drum mic kit, a tascam US1800 with Cubase LE5. I'm completely slow when it comes to recording so excuse me for my rookie questions. For a little background, I play a few stringed instruments, a tiny bit of piano, and drums so that's what I'll be recording. I've figured out how to record tracks with my condenser mics, but now I want to plug my guitar into one of the VST instrument line ins. I can hear the guitar through my headphones that I'm using but when I go to record it, nothing will record. I've added the correct bus to my VST connections via the 9th input, so it's not that. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I suggest using an app that doesn't get in your way intellectually. Unless you are doing heavy MIDI, I would suggest an app built on an "audio first" paradigm. The free Audacity would be a good choice

Hey there,

Check that:

1) Your track is Record Enabled.
2)That Use External Sync in the toolbar is off.

Also be sure to assign the input on the track you're recording. It's good you found the VST connections, but there's more to do. Unfortunately, Cubase isn't the most intuitive in regard to connectivity.
