PLease listen to this and tell me what you think. It's not finished yet. I still have a clean guitar sound, organ, and vocals to add, but I wanted to see what you guys all thought. If you don't have anything nice to say, PLEASE give me some constructive critisism. A lot of people are going to hear this.

The Guitars are like underwater bring them out to play and it will be cool. Also I dont know if its a skip thing or if the timing is off, but one of those. Other than that cool.

Tried but I think the encoding corupted the file. Maybe it's a sample rate problem.

You're on the right track, and I like the bassline. I kept hearing a kind of hiccup noise throughout though, and there were some kinds of skips or jumps at various places, as if your recorder has hung up for a moment. Is this your recorder, or the mp3 encoder, or my end? Also, what happened to the drums from 2.10 to 2.29? It's like they disappeared almost. I think I agree with Shakes about the guitar level, but I want to hear the whole mix first.
 
heh..I hope it really is corrputed! I didnt think it sounded THAT bad! Any digital hiccups must be the mp3 encoder, but I don't hear them? Maybe my upload got corrupted. It is a slightly different size.
2:10 to 2:29 you should be able to hear the toms...

Holy shit! I just downloaded the song, and it's really jacked up. I'm gonna try to upload it again...
 
Okay, it sounds exactly the same! My original is fine, but every time I upload it it gets corrupted in the same way! I'm using commmand line ftp, should I be using something else? DAMNIT!

I've got an idea, try compressing the mp3 file inside a zip file (even though it won't compress a lot). The zip fil tends to "protect" the mp3 file, reducing the interference. Hope this helps...

I spotted several problems.
You're right about the need for better levels. Vegas meters showed the file to be off of "normalized" by 9.6 dB, a rather noticeable shortfall.
Also the encoder is doing weird hiccup and squealy noise shit to the file.
Third, when I re-rendered it to .wav within Vegas Pro (Sound Forge XP would not recognize the file at all) and expanded it I found sections that look (and sound) like splices that didn't quite preserve the original timing. But this is just speculation since I haven't heard the original timing. :)
Also there were three seemingly extraneous peaks which would've dashed any attempt to use the normalization function. Squash them and you can easily get 8 more dB without any EQ or compression; just normalize the file.

I noticed those peaks as well in soundforge, but I couldnt figure out how to get rid of them without messing thoe whole thing up. Do you know how to do this in Soundforge?

Also, it's not my encoder that made the weird hicups, it's from when I uploded the file. My original is fine, but when I upload the file, then download it and listen to it, it's all jacked up. Should I include the checksum data when I encode the mp3? Would this help it upload right?

Try zooming in on just the offending peak, from where it crosses the "zero" line to the top (or bottom, depending on whether it's an "up" peak or a "down" peak) and back to zero. Select this tiny region and do a volume cut by ~6 - 8 dB.
I've never needed to do anything special to a file to ensure that it will upload correctly.
FTP should copy any file verbatim.
How else could you upload an .exe file?
 
If you're using FTP, make sure you're in binary mode and not ASCII mode. Otherwise, the FTP software will probably mangle your MP3 thinking that it's fixing end of line markers. If you use a command-line based FTP, type "bin" (without quotes) before the upload. That should fix it.
 
OKay, I think I got it. Thanks for the tip pglewis, it worked! It should all be normalized and everything now too.

I LOVE the guitar sound. Very nice!
The bass lacks bottom, and I can barely hear the bassdrum at all. Maybe it's a general lack of bass?

It's a little loose in spots, tighter in others. The drums being the worst culprit. The kick is all but missing, as regebro noted. But it's hard to say since this is still just the foundation, let us know when you get the other tracks in place.

OT: I used to live out in Denver... do you know the guys from Boss 302?
 
Yeah maybe bass could be bassier...wanna hear some goblin vocals on this and the organ....I noticed there were some spaces to fill, which I'm sure are waiting for those two parts...really nice tune and composition...couldn't really get a handle on the drum sound, didn't dislike it, but it didn't jazz me either.....gibs
 
Thanks for the input guys! Yeah, I didnt like the kick musch, either, need to work on it. But I've been playind drums for a few weeks now, and still have a lot to learn. The track that you hear is about the 5,000,000 take.
